Good old C5. I want to mock a TNW 1919 up like a C5 and mount it on an Iltis.

In 1983 I was on a Canadian Army machine gunners course 6 weeks
3 weeks on GPMG ,7.62 nato (Platoon wpns det ) and 3 weeks on M2 ,50 cal
Yes very heavy to carry specially the 50 cal.
no vehicles as we were Airborne
You can manpack the 50 cal in components but its NOT fun ,
as I recall a 50 cal machine gun detactment was 9 guys 4 per gun( 2 x 50 cal )
and one sgt in charge,if memory serves me correctly
Best 6 weeks of my gun nut life ,Lots of belt fed fun,but unlike the movies we fired in bursts so as not to overheat the barrel
wife at the time even helped me study for written tests

I used the C5 from 84 until 95/6 when it was finally phased out as the coax Mg in the AVGP's.

The C6 is a much better Mg but I still kind of missed the old pig.
 
There really is no other feeling like firing off a couple of belts, live, and then needing a shovel to pick up all that brass (that then went to waste...).

I remember humping the G-Pig on my Inf Pl Comd's course, way the frig back in 1982. Prior to that I used the C5 as the coax in the Cougar turret. 2 tracer for aiming, 5 tracer for killing. Oh good times.
