Browning 28Ga O/U value or variant information needed

I have same as OP - Serial number also ends with "RN173" - 1979. Fixed chokes - "*" on top barrel; "**" on lower barrel at chamber end on left side. Easy enough for OP to check there to confirm if originally had fixed chokes. A mid rib sight was installed on mine when I received it - I do not know if that is original or not. Paid $1,430 delivered to me in Dec. 2013 (I checked, not from 3macs1 above!!)

Bought mine about the same time, 1295$ delivered to my door. There seemed to be deals all over the place then, dealers seemed to be dumping them

Not my style, it’ll be priced to go, cleaning house, no emotional value.

There is one in the EE right now or there was about 4 hours ago...
What the owner was asking I dont recall.
But, you have had some guesses of $2000.00 and $2200.00 and your still not in agreement?
What do you feel it is worth?
Im selling a Citori Lightning for $500.00 less than retail less the taxes yet and a couple of tire kickers (20gauge 28 inch barrels)
Brand New never been hunted let alone fired so therefore it is used.
The Sub Gauge is a niche one.
Good Hunting.

There are no invector plus 28 gauge chokes. And if the gun was made in 1979, it didn't come with factory removable chokes. The S-42 indicates that they are Briley thinwall choke tubes.

Beat me to it! As for the chokes and installation, I haven’t looked at a Briley price list in about a year but if memory serves it was around $250 or $300 to have both barrels of an O/U installed with thin walls including chokes? In 1992 I had a model 12 done at Briley. Cost then for Series 2 thin walls installed was $129 US including 3 chokes for lead shot or $149 with 3 VX Series steel shot compatible chokes, $20 extra.

To be exact. It is what is referred to as a type 2 field grade. The type 2 has the square edge at the bottom of the receiver in the rear half. The type 3 is rounded all along the bottom. The type 1 if you want to call it that was the first model citori browning had Miroku make for them patterned after the Charles Daly one they made where the hammers pivoted from top and bottom. Type twos are the most desirable from a collector standpoint as the most cosmetically and functionally resemble the superposed Brownings.
