Hey,
there is a used Browning .308 BLR at my local gun store for sale for $590. Its in mint condition, barely a scratch on it. The store owner knows the previous owner, and says it hasn't had more than 2 boxes of ammo through it. Which it evident by the condition it is in. Its only been in the store for 3 days, and is going to go quick. Wondering if this is a deal worth nabbing up. Im new to the hunting scene, interested in deer and black bear; and have always wanted a level action. What do you guys think? Thanks!

One question, if the store owner knows the rifle and the previous owner, how can he not know the value of the rifle? $590 is a steal of a deal. Why is the price so low?

Thats kind of what i was wondering. Working the action, it was as smooth as butter. didnt look like it was abused at all. what do you think the rifle should go for used?

Hmmm I see by your ip you live in....... Closest gun shop is....

:D

Have a good look at the bore, and grab it if it's still there, and the bores good.

No rules on insider trading here on Nutzs?

I would suspect the rifle you are looking at could be a deposit
on something the owner has in mind to purchase?
Don't snooze if you really wish to own it.
Post some photos after you get it so we can razz ya.......:p

$590 for a BLR81 .308Win in mint condition is a fair price. I paid 525.00 new in 1986 for one from Lovett's in Kitchener,Ont for a comparison. I sold it in 2010 with Redfield 4X G5, for 500.00. The EE seems a little steeper than that though.

Enjoy your BLR.

Best still hunting rifle in the world. You spot a Big buck watching your approach while scanning down through the harwood/softwood mix block you're hunting and it's 75yards. He doesn't know it's a man yet he just saw movement and you got the optical advantage around your neck. It seems further because of the tunnel effect....you slip that hammer all the way back, put the crosshairs on that white patch,..........boom!!!!

Walk over and collect your prize, enjoying the smell of powder half ways down to your buck. Yea, I've been there, and it's Hmmm, Hmmm, good.

I have bought several, between 450 and 600.As stated not a bad deal, but not a squeeler .The clips are hard to come by, with the older ones.

haha. well i was at the shop till close today. and will be there 5 minutes before open tomorrow. and since he knows me, im not to worried about someone snaking it. :p ill try and get some pictures up tomorrow night. cheers everyone!

I own two. Good price, but not a killer deal. Add taxes and you have the price of a nice used one on the EE (or perhaps a bit more?). If it is in as good a condition as you state, and I don't doubt it for a second, then you will be very happy with the rifle and the price in future. Looking forward to the pictures. :)

I hate to bring it back but about 10 plus years ago, or 20 (?) I was repairing couple of BLR's, they for the most part were skipping engagement between rack and pinion gears, mostly due to wear b/c they were so damn small. New models - I have no idea b/c I just don't like to work on them. I prefer Win mod 88 instead, nothing ever goes wrong with them exept thin and weak walnut stock around the receiver is susceptible to breckage sometimes.... My 2c....

I sold one on the EE a couple years ago, which I'd purchased new several years previous. Like the OP's find, it was in pretty much new condition, and I let it go for $600. Not that I didn't like it, just that with that glossy finish and still perfect blueing I seldom took it out, because I hated worrying about marking it up in the bush ... stupid I know, but ....

Grab it. You will be more than happy with that rifle. I love mine. Have had a few others which I in a moment of temporary insanity sold. $590 is a fair price for that rifle and the Browning is about the best lever for the price.

$590 plus tax is a fair price. Not a steal but definitely fair. If it is an '81 I say pick it up. The BLR is a very nice lever and .308 is a great cal for your needs. I have owned a few now and have had no problems. I think you are going to be very happy with the gun.

Agreed... pretty decent deal... my dad has been shooting one for about 20 years and has taken many deer with it... he likes the compactness and handling...
