Anyone have this rifle, if so is it a tack driver? Am looking for a new precision .223 rife that will shoot the heavy .224
bullets, this rife has a 1.8 twist 28" barrel, it should get the job done. I know what the Savage will do but I
just don't want that brand this time. Thanks for your .02 worth.

I think there's a reason why you don't seem them much. First off there's no aftermarket support so your stuck with it as is. More importantly the 28" barrel would be useless for a .223 IMO. If you don't want a savage look at remmy or tikka (tikka has the twist rate your looking for).

I have a 28" amd a 30" .223 barrel on a couple rifles. Pretty useless unless you want to shoot out to 1000 yards. Sure I might be able to use something shorter, but I need the sight radius to make the iron sights work.

I do agree about the A-Bolt though. In all my years of competition shooting I have only seen one F Class rifle built on a Browning action.

I am a big fan of Browning Abolt rifles and own two that are tack drivers. That being said, when it came time for a long range build I had to go with Remington due to aftermarket options. I was recently looking at a new 223 and was considering either Remington or Tikka.
Good luck, let us know if you go with the Browning.

I'm sure I have read that something about the method of construction used by Browning on that gun makes it very difficult to change barrels? Pressed-in barrels rather than threaded, or something like that?

I used to own a Browning A-Bolt and thought it a well made and accurate rifle. Problem is though as others have said is that there is little, if any, aftermarket support for the platform. That being the case you better really like what you got because you are stuck with it. IMO there are better options.

The way I understand it the action is make of a cast alloy that some gunsmith didn't want to risk breaking it while trying to remove the barrel, if this is true the rifle might
be hard to sell down the road when that time comes, am shiftinging my thoughts in another direction now. What model Remmie has a fast twist barrel?

The 700 XCR TLR .223 has 26" 1 in 9.

What model Remington has the 1:9 barrel?
Thanks!

The one above, but also the Rem 700 5R, and the Rem SPS Tactical.

I had an almost like new 5R in 223 for sale in the EE for 2 weeks, but I pulled it off this weekend. reason is: I KNOW I would have regretted selling it too much next summer.

I did a lot of looking and inquiring about the 223's or the 22-250's for plinking. After some great advice from supporters of CGN ( thankx Mystic ) I bought a Stainless Tikka Varmint / 8 twist / in 223 a couple of years ago from Ross @ TheGunDealer...he kicked everyones azz on the price :D:D

I don't think you'll ever go wrong with the heavy barrelled Tikka IMHO...only draw back is the mag length restriction when your doing the longer heavier bullets....but I'm gonna try to remedy that problem (using some one elses ideas...I believe it was posted on CGN here someplace )

FYI...if interested...
So far, I've had great results with 52, 55 grainers for a light load. Broke my gun in and fireformed a bunch of brass.
..
..then I started with the 69 gr Scenars..WOW....got my awesome hundred yd load done .250.

..now I'm enjoying the fruits of my labours with the 80 gr A-Maxes and some 24.6 gr of Varget. This one I've got down to 1/2 - 3/4" @ 200 yards. :D...looking for more refining and then....out to 3 and 400 yds...soon as I get some time.
Best of luck with your decision!...shortmag

Thanks! Kevin for all that good info. The Tikka HB Varmint is looking more and more like the best bang for the buck in a percision .223 rifle class. Your groups speak well for that.
Am placing the Remmie XCR above the Browning on the list now. i might get a chance to drop by the shop tomorrow if the snow holds off. If I go with a Tikka I'll be looking for your mag modifactions. LOL's
