I'm considering a used A bolt in 270 win in a trade, it's synthetic/blued in I'd say 8/10 condition. Trying to figure out how much it's worth as I can't find any on the EE. opinions? Bare rifle value. I'm looking for a resale value, something someone would actually pay on the EE.

A-Bolt or A-Bolt II?

I actually dont know. Is there a quick identifier between them? I haven't seen the rifle other than in a grainy pic. It looks ok and I am told that it is in gc, and I think the guy is telling the truth about condition at any rate. I do find the value claim to be a little high though... it is including a bushnell legend 3-9 and he recons its 1000 TV. Hence the open query.

Based on the information given, I think it would sell on the EE at between 700-800 with the scope.
He's definitely inflating the price.
For $1000 or less on the EE, you could pick up some pretty fine (better) rifles. Like a vanguard series 2, Ruger M77, winchester M70. Unless you're stuck on an A-bolt with a removable mag in that chambering, I'd pass unless he drops the price.

A-Bolt or A-Bolt II or A-Bolt III google is your friend and should help you ID what your looking at, maybe post the pictures you have of it,good luck hope it works out for you

Abolt and Abolt II are virtually the same. Ask for serial number. Last 3 digits should be 351, this an Abolt or Abolt II. The Legend scope is worth about $150 as part of the package. If the rifle is in good shape, value will be around $650 -$800 with that scope. Of course you need to confirm the condtion. A cherry version would fetch a bit more.

The original A-Bolt was plagued with feeding problems, so much so that Browning redesigned the rifle and brought out the A-Bolt II . I personally owned 2 of the original design, one a replacement for the other, and neither would feed worth a damn.
In my opinion the original design is worth much less than current, A-Bolt II model.

Hmmm mine has never had a feeding problem ever. What caliber was yours??

The original was a .284 & the replacement was a 30-06. Both would strip a round off the top of the magazine and then about 10% of the time cartridge would spin and stovepipe.

Not an issue if shooting paper but a major pain when you try and chamber a round to kill something.

I now own a couple of A-Bolt II rifles, a300 WSM and the other 25 WSSM and both feed cartridges as slick as a fat kid slurping hot dogs at a picnic.

Same here. Mid 90's stainless. 300 WMag production model, never any issues in 20+ years.

My brother and I both have win mags as well, a little over ten years old, not a problem with either of them... ever.

The OP should just try searching the EE to get a price range

Yup my SS synthetic 25wssm has never had a feeding issue. They were a lot more than $600 ,maybe a blued one .Mine was over $1000 even back then.

My Browning A-Bolt II Stainless Stalker in 1993 was $900.00.
$450-$600 might be a stretch on the high end.

But without some real tangible evidence (picture or two ) one has to compare the question,
How much for my Red Chevy Blazer with low Km's on it ?

the_blacksmith , have you done any searching through the EE to see for yourself what they might be going for or any other website to see what the market may bare ?
I'm always curious if one has checked themselves , compared data and recommendations first.
