What are your opinions on the Browning A-Bolt II? Accuracy, fit and finish, the detach. magazine, etc.? Thanks for the input.

My first rifle was the 'A' Bolt in .270.
I really enjoyed that rifle, very accurate, knocked down anything that i shot at.

The highly glossed finish is something that you like or dislike, either way, they are an accurate rifle and if you like the way it feels, fits, looks & handles, etc., buy one!!!

PS, Don't listen to 'Boo, he's a mountain type of guy that probably uses a lever action type of gun, but keeps it a secret :p

Hmmmmm...let's see.

Browning A-Bolt II Varmint Stalker in .22-250...

18 dead yotes this summer...including taken at ranges of 350+ yards...

Countless groundhogs shot during spring...including shots of 200+ yards...

No jams...

No feeding issues...

Quick 60 degree bolt lift...

Great Dura-Touch stock...

Yeah...I like it...I like it lots... :D

Yep I got a bunch of levers - including a Browning BLR that I love - but for serious shooting I use one of my Model 70s or my old BSA Imperial which was made when there was still some pride in good craftsmanship! LoL

Browning makes good firearms, I love both the BLR rifles and the BPS shotguns, I am just not thrilled with the design of the A-Bolts. It is probably more a Ford vs Chevy thing than anything else> LoL

OK 'Boo, what is it that you are not thrilled about the 'A' bolt rifle???

They are very accurate, & the bolt action will cycle @ 60 degrees !!!

SSSSOOOO, why do you not like the 'A' Bolt design :?:

A little pricy but I have mine in the Synthetic stalker 30.06 and love it, I may be in the minority but I think that clip design is slick. Sure it's one more step than a conventional clip but when not in use the inside of the action stay's clean. my 2C

my hunting buddy had one freeze up in the extreem cold and he actualy had the bang it with a rock  to get the bolt open.

I just bought an abolt Classic hunter in 300 wsm. I like the rifle quite a bit, the mag system I can take or leave, lots of guys talk about it rattling, mine only rattles when empty. It's a little niosy chambering a round. Mine is accurate, without trying very hard I am getting just under an inch with Barnes TSX bullets, it killed everyting that I guessed the range correctly on on my hunt two weeks ago.
Mine has a satin finish and low lustre blueing. Fit and finish is good, I like the tang safety, the short bolt throw, the regular Abolt stock doesn't fit me, I needed the semi montecarlo style of the classic.
I will probabaly keep the rifle, but if a Finnlight in the same caliber comes along I will probably switch to it.

Did you see this personally or only 'hear' about it? :?

The one thing that i didn't like about the Browning is the magazine arrangement.

I hate that system too.Very slow compared to the other detachable magazines.Either go with a detachable mag or a hinged floorplate as there is no need for both.

I have to agree on this as well. I went to an A-Bolt after using a BAR for many years. While I enjoy the accuracy of the A-Bolt, it took a long while to get used to the mag clip arrangement being backwards from the BAR. Couple that with the fact that both the BAR and A-Bolt mag doors are a cast metal and are prone to breaking.
IMHO, the A-Bolt is a good shooting rifle, capable of some good accuracy.

I personally love the Browning system better than both standard detachable mags, and by FAR...MUCH better than hinged floor plates.

If decent accuaracy and the abiltiy to kill is what you are looking for, its right in there with most everything else. Afterall, what calibres/bullets don't kill the game they are intended for if kept within their limitations? Its not the rifle that kills.

If you are looking for quality that represents the price tag, I'd go elsewhere.
