Browning A5 problem

Browning A5 Magnum shotgun, fires and ejects and loads 2nd round. Pull trigger for 2nd shot and nothing. Work action about 1" then gun will fire.

Any thoughts as to why?

Does it only do this with target shells? If so the friction rings are probably set to heavy.

No with 3" shells.

How long has it been since the gun has been cleaned really well?

I have three Auto 5's and they love to be clean. I find after about one flat they have the same problem. A complete cleaning should solve you problem.

My best guess would be the Action spring, clean the tube & spring or better replace it.

I agree. My A5 mag did the same thing and I had the gun cleaned. The action spring was corroded. The action spring is in the tube in the stock, it resets the bolt. If the bolt isn't completely forward, the firing pin won't move. My SKB XL900 did the same thing and a new action spring fixed that problem too.

If the cleaning does not work try getting a new recoil and action spring.As the Auto 5 gets older these springs can become depressed and weaker.Western Gun Parts in Alberta should have these springs.

It's for a friend so I'll let him know. I did suggest a real good cleaning but I didn't have knowledge about the parts.
