Fired a few groups with mine the other day, using what reloads I had on hand. Group size was nothing to be proud of, but was minute of white tail. So, now, I have to get started on finding a load it likes.

My first results in my RA compact were similar. I noticed the barrel was almost touching the stock on the left side which I found a common situation on the interweb. I opened up the channel substantially with sandpaper to a 1/8" minimum gap everywhere and it really smartened up accuracy wise.

Thanks for the tip. I will check my barrel channel in addition to working up loads.

No prob Chuckbuster, I just did it by hand with 80 grit along the sides and wrapped an appropriate sized deep socket with sandpaper to open up the round at the front, it was near touching on the bottom too. I went over everything with 320 grit after and it came out nice and smooth hard to tell anything was done :)

I recently bought an RAR and found the same situation with the forend. I too will address this before trying it out in the spring.

And thanks again, for the walk through!

Nice to see I'm not the only one that likes to polish .... lol. I also filled the for stock up to the level of the frames with thickened epoxy once set it stiffened things up a lot you have to really lean on something for the bbl to contact now. Quite happy with my little stainless compact with a vx2 3-9x40 on it it comes in at 6lb 10 oz handy little unit for hunting the thick wet stuff around here :)

picked up my ab3 today. it feels really good, super solid. If anyone looks back on this thread to figure out which one they may want to get. Don't do it blindly, seriously go into a store that has both guns and feel them.
for me, the big differences that i felt had a big influence on my purchase:

the browning stock just feels more solid, less hollow, doesn't feel like a cheap stock. The ruger kind of felt like a toy compared to the browning.
the chamber on the browning is considerably bigger and easier/faster to hand load.
the magazine on the browning is made of much sturdier feeling plastics and metal.
bolt release button with the safety was really sweet, i'm quite paranoid so this was a nice feature that i didn't even know existed
recessed barrel, happy to know that if i drop the gun I'm happy knowing that the barrel isn't in crazy danger

note: i picked it up at a 569CAD price point and felt that these features were entirely worth the extra 140 from the Ruger.

Thanks for the help anyone that responded, this forum is awesome. now its time to save up for my shotgun. i'm thinking tactical... for duck hunting.

Ill be getting my AB3 tomorrow (7mm Rem) and getting a smokin deal on a Vortex Viper 3-9x40. Thinking about slapping a Boyds on it. same pepper colour as that Ruger. very nice!

What's the length of the forend on that RAR measured from the front of the receiver? Weight w/o bipod? Thanks! ;)

I emailed Boyds and asked them and this was their reply. Funny ..... I thought they might have a tape measure laying around.

Dear Paul,

I apologize, but we do not have the length of the forend for the Ruger American stock or actually any of our stocks. We do not offer a service for hollowing out the buttstocks either. Your best bet would be to contact a gunsmith to remove the extra wood or do an online search.

Thank you,

Lisa
