Browning Auto 5 FN Built

Went to the local gunshop this weekend for a crate of 7.62 39 ammo and ended up buying a decent looking auto 5 for a good price I think. Has a polymer adjustable choke on it seems to work pretty good too . Good on clays and the xtra full choke setting groups shot really tight. Any tips or tricks on maintaining this beast so i can get 20 more years out of it. Paid 250 let me know what you think.

Auto 5's are great guns. you should take it apart and clean everything. Then add grease to the big spring and brass rings. Kept clean and oiled, these guns give great service. Extra small parts are available from Brownells. Clean the wood and finish to protect it. Wood is expensive to replace and used wood isn't easy to find, especially forends. extra barrels are also nice to have and easy to install,also not inexpensive. But it gives you options.
 
DO NOT grease the bronze friction rings. They are designed to squeeze the mag tube and deaccelerate the barrel during recoil. Grease will increase barrel speed and decrease the recoil control of the rings. Go to Browning's web site for some A 5 info in regards to proper set up of the friction rings for various loads.

That's a "Poly-Choke" you've got on that A5.

I've had one in 20 ga Magnum for over 40 years. Great shotgun!

You should have all the info re: friction rings on the inside of the fore end.

Don't snug up the fore end too tight. The wood is thin and some fore ends end up getting split.
 
Thanks for the info guys I will defiantly go on the website and make sure i have those rings setup right and i wont tighten the endcap too much, which i try to never over tighten anything like some people do lol. Glad to hear some of you have gotten 40 years out of these, it is truly built like a tank and a nice looking shotty imho. I really knew NOTHING about this gun before i bought it but it felt right, looked good and said browning on it so im glad i made the right choice. The bore is absolutely mint too which is a surprise. Ill date it too when i get around to it.

Lets see some more A-5s if you got one.

Here's my Magnum 20 - wearing its slug sights. My wife reminded me that I bought just after our daughter was born - so it's 45 1/2 years old.

Failure to eject may require some light oiling.
