I am thinking pretty soon i am going to start to look for an old browning auto 5 sweet 16. I am wondering if i end up coming across one chambered for 2 9/16" shells how hard would it be to convert it to 2 3/4" shells? is there anyone that can tell me how to do it step by step or is there anything online?

i have heardthere are 12 things that must be changed and how to do them. I might like to pick one up as a project gun actually and convert it myself

It involves things from chamber reaming to foreend modification. I would have a good smith do the work. I have worked on A5s and I have found that work bench tools will not get it done. These guns are built to a standard that is unheard of today. Threads are super fine and tightly wound, screw heads require special scredrivers to avoid damage etc etc. I would look for a sweet that was made to shoot 2 3/4" shells. Be very wary of "converted" guns too. Some were not done properly and have issues that will coast you in the end. I wish you success in your quest. They are beautiful guns and a joy to hunt with.

still if i came across an old beater i think it would be an interesting project. is there anyone who has done it that can explain itor anywhere online that shows how its done?
