I have a auto five 2.75 that has a japan barrel but I think it is a belgium standard weight receiver the stock has a flat knob it does not say that it is a light twelve on the side but it does have the scroll engraving the butt plate says FN on it but it may be a replacement.

Were any standard weight receivers made in Japan?
how could i tell were it was made?

If you google the Auto five there are a few sights where you can check your serial #and probably find out where and when it was made. There are letter designations that say what model the receiver is.

The jap Browning Auto Fives were in 12 gauge, Light Twelve and Magnum Twelve. No standard Twelves. All Jap 16 gauges were Sweets and The 20 gauge followed the 12 with a Light and a Magnum designation. Your frame is Belgian.
