I have just acquired a new to me Browning B80 semi auto shotgun. In doing a serial # search it appears the gun was made in 1986. The receiver is alloy rather than steel. The barrel is marked 3" Magnum Invector.
the thing does not cycle properly when shooting 2 3/4" trap loads;even heavier ones with a 3 dram eq. rating.
Would this have something to do with the fact that the gun is marked 3" Magnum?? And that it won't interchange between 3" and 2 3/4" loads or something?? Sort of like the A5's?

I have told the dealer that i am returning the gun as i want one that doubles for trap in summer and geese in fall with the magnum loads. we'll see.................

thanks for looking

The Browning B80 is actually a beretta shotgun. I have a feeling that the 3" version would require at least 3 1/4 dram loads. It was designed for heavy 3" hunting type loads. It might not be the choice for you for your needs.

The b-80s had two gas port holes in the barrel for 2 3/4 inch chambers and one hole for 3 inch chambers. The 3 inch chamber barrel need more pressure in the load than a trap load provides. If memory serves you need at least a standard hunting load to cycle the action with a 3 inch chamber
