Browning BAR .308 value.

I have a chance to acquire a lovely, lightly used, Browning BAR in .308. It's in great shape, well cared for, and it comes with the proper scope mount and a nice sling. My problem is that I have no idea of what constitutes a fair price. I know prices seem to be regional, but I do want everything above board on this transaction. Any good input would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.
 
A .308 hunting gun in excellent condition can be had for 500 to 700 on the EE.
BAR rifles are to me more of a niche gun since they are quite heavy when scoped and semi auto. Both features that the average Hunter sees as undesirable. So if you have decided you want one ask him what he wants for it. If I were you I wouldn't pay more than 800-I would be alot happier paying 600 or less which is a price you might see one going for on the EE.
 
They seem to in the $750 range.
I have had a hankering to own exactly this, but for
the $750, I think there are better options out there.
$500 would be a great score.
 
A fair price is whatever makes both seller and buyer content. If neither has any idea, canvass some gun shops for similar examples to see what they are asking. A private sale will typically be for a bit less.

what is a "proper" scope to you? because to me that alone is $1000 or more by itself.

What era is the rifle, belgian made?

Please note; I said proper scope MOUNT (ie: Browning one piece), not scope. The gentleman has a Leupold that he will mount on another rifle. Thanks to all for the input. I know I could buy one for less and get a deal, but I'm trying to help a buddy out with some coin, so I'd give him fair market value for the rifle. I believe it's one of the ones assembled in Japan, but I'd have to double check. From the prices you gentlemen are quoting, it's about what I'd figured.

Further information. It's a Belgium made Browning. It turns out he's had it longer than I'd thought. Partially, the fact that it looks so good and has had so little use threw me off.

A cheap scope for a gun I don't particularly like to shoot.
Truth be told it was a package deal used at my LGS. The rifle shoots flawlessly but I find semi's to lack character.
I'm a CRF guy....But whatever floats your boat.
