I'm eyeing up a a couple BARs but am concerned with weight. I do a decent amount of walking and not looking for a boat anchor to lugg around. Wondering if anyone has real life weight on these rifles. Im looking at both 308 and 30-06. Thanks in advance.

I have packed one for 100's of miles over the last 25 years in 270 Win. It is wearing a Leupold 3-9X40.
It weighs in at 9lbs.
Thanks for the response. I have a friend that just received a BAR MK1 that weighs in at 7.5lbs even with no scope. I also have another friend with one that apparently weighs 8.5 with straight sights.

I have one in 30-06 and I don’t mind it at all, I never weighed it though! Anything 9lbs and lighter is ok with me on short flatish outing, anything with real elevation I usually choose something lighter!

Great rifles but not worthy of packing around in the bush.
Little piglets.
Sadly that's what I have been reading. We hunt with dogs and I've been carrying a Remington 7400 but was hoping to switch to the BAR. May just wait and grab a BAR that is not ridiculously priced to tote for a season and see how things work out. A buddy has a MK1 BAR that seems to have birch wood stocks on it. That rifle weighs 7.5lbs with iron sights/no scope.

I have a Tikka for long hikes but thought I'd try the BAR when running hounds for deer season. I could walk a decent amount in a day though when I'm the dog man.

I don’t have any problems carrying around 8.5-9 rifles other than if there is lots of elevation gain. But I know it adds up and at the end of the day every pounds make a difference, especially if you do it days after days!
One thing for sure is people now a day seems to like big high magnification scopes and that adds a bit of weight and screw up balance and swing in my experience!
If you are not gonna shoot anything past 150m like bush hunting you probably don’t need more than a 4x fixed scope and that will keep the total weight down.
