Browning BAR question

I have a Browing BAR shottrac in .300 WSM. I recently took it apart and gave it a cleaning. I noticed on on the block that the gas piston inserts into there is a screw on one side and a hole on the other. The screw has what looks to be indexing marker in it to insure that the screw does not turn. On the other side of the block the same indexing marker is over the hole but looks like that whatever was in the hole has been pushed out. I can not remember if it was like this the last time I took it apart or not. I guess my question would be is there supposed to be an open void on one side or is there supposed to be something blocking that hole off. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Interesting. Looks like I will need a set screw then. Will this harm the gun if I shoot it like this.

The set screw holds the gas control screw in position. Don't play with this stuff, if you do it may void your warranty. Are you sure your set screw is missing? It may just be deep in the hole. If it is missing you may be able to get one from a gunsmith or Western Gun Parts.
