Browning bar safari, stain on blue question

Hi there browning owner, I just bought a browning bar safari mark 2 used and after inspecting it I saw a small stain on the receiver bluing, I though it was a sticker that was there or something but then I saw that there's a similar stain on the inside of the receiver. I was wondering if it was because this part was heat treated or something like this. I emailed browning service and I'm waiting for an answer.

Ask the guy you bought it off of. None of my browning bars have that on them. Might be a bluing repair.

I asked him and said he bought it like that from an old retired man.

Give it a light rub with some 0000 steel wool and gun oil.

I'd hold off using the steel wool as it may damage the finish. Scotch brite pads are available in a variety of abrasiveness and would be substantially easier on the finish. I'd start with the least abrasive and work up, paying attention for any unwanted blueing removal.

Looks like some sort of weld repair, likely done at the factory. Don't touch it with anything. It's discolored because it's a different metal or different heat treat than the surrounding metal. Leave it be.

i had similar stains on a blued ruger m77. mine were caused by blood that got on the barrel and dried. left a stain i could never remove.

DITTO.... On a high gloss shot gun receiver. Permanent. Bird blood is deadly on bluing, almost instant.
