Browning BAR vs Benelli R1

Did some prior searches on this and saw that BigRedd had lots good to say about the R1. I'm looking at the BAR Short Trac with Dura Touch and the Benelli R1 in the Comforttech stock. Both have good reviews out there. It appears that the accuracy on the Benelli is a bit better. It also has the comfort tech stock but since these are both autoloaders I doubt there is a pile of recoil to begin with.
I like the idea of the Duratouch on the Browning. Have it on a BPS and helps the gun stand up to the elements. Is there a coating on the Benelli barrel or is it just blued.
Finally the Benelli seems to be anywhere from 400-500 dollars more and not sure if it's really worth it.

Neither should be used by any self respecting hunter, as semi-autos are meant to be shot repeatedly, at a fast rate to encourage fun. Unless of course you are a mall ninja who loves pizza pockets and chases deer with 4x4's, or worse yet, dogs:p. (There I did my good deed for the day and tried to turn this thread into an anti-semi hi-jack. Now where is Amphib and Bartell.....:stirthepot2:)
 
My ShortTrac 308 ownership is coming for one year next month. For the 300+ rounds I fired I didn't have any problem. I believe it has to do with cleaning the rifle after each range session. Recoil is quite reasonable (nothing to write home about).

It took me a long time to find the right load for it. Now I have it shooting under 1 MOA with 165 gr Interbond with Varget. I am thinking on taking it moose hunting this coming season.

Can't tell you if the R1 is worth the extra $500 as I never handle the gun. There appears to be many happy R1 owners out there for sure.

I was out hunting saturday with my Benelli .30-06 shot 2 yotes with 150gr loads one right after the other shot one at 98yds the other one took off running he was out at 118yds when I poked him. I took both shots in less then 5sec lets see a bolt gun do that :)

Accuracy with the R1 is not as bad as some people make it out to be and most people who say accuracy is bad dont even own one..and havent even shot one..lol.....so to anyone who doesnt own or atleast have put 60-80 rounds through a BAR or R1 should not even post in this thread.

I dialed this gun in last weekend it will shoot a 1 3/4'' 3 shot group at 150yds and just under 2'' at 200yds so accuracy is not an issue and the quick follow up shot is nice for taking multiple shots like I did yesterday.

anyway the BAR and R1's are awsome guns its up to you but after putting almost 100rounds through my R1 I'm glad I bought it over the BAR.

the R1 weighs 7.1lbs and the BAR weighs 6lb15oz ->7lbs6oz for the safari

BAR lists for $980-$1150 and the R1 lists at $1456 the reason I bought my R1 over the BAR was the price. I got it used off CGN for less then the BAR and it only had 25rounds put through it and came with two boxes of ammo.

Its up to you if you can I say shoot both and go from there I love the BAR and R1... either one will put a smile on your face everytime you take it out of the safe.
 
i was considering buying a BAR a few months back, and the overwhelming advice i got from BAR owners is to pick up the steel Safari model, not the new Longtrac/Shortrac. these were all older gentlemen though so it might be just be their preference for the traditional, as opposed to the new Euro styling/plastics.
