I wonder how the latest Browning semi compares to the time tested BAR? Not too sure why they even needed this new version but am open to trying one possibly if the reviews are good? Thinking of a .308 win.

oh boy! I'm gonna be watching this thread with interest! I hope there will be some good info come up. I've been thinking real hard lately about getting a new shortrax in either 7mm-08 or the 308. I want the one with the fancy European stock. It has the shortest LOP of them all.

Too sell to people who were otherwise perfectly content with their old BARs (which, like most guns, will last several lifetimes of hunting) and to (mostly younger) fellows who have grown up in a world of different aesthetics and consequently won't buy the old style BARs simply because they are an old style.

I'm 49 and probably old for my age. The original BARs look modern enough for me. I dislike the style of the new Short/Longtracs because they look to me like they were styled first, then the gun was crammed in there - "form over function."

I have/had a few of both.

For my taste if you are looking at 308 win the ShortTrac is the clear winner.

The original style BAR is heavier and they are all the same action length.

I've had two of the ShortTrac's with the wood stocks but found the forearm stock to be noisy, they had kind of a hollow sound. I presently have a 300wsm with the black stalker stock and a 7mm-08rem with the camo stalker stock.

I have an original style BAR in 25-06rem that I bought at least 6 months ago and it is a beautiful rifle, but just too heavy for my liking, haven't even fired a shot through it yet as I'm pretty sure I'm not going to keep it.

The sweep of the grip area on the rear stock is slightly different so I would suggest going and trying each. My father loves the lightweight of the ShortTrac but still prefers the original BAR and has a wood stocked one in 300win mag and a 308win synthetic with the duracoat finish. He may get my 25-06 for coyotes.

Hmmmm, I wouldn't mind taking if off your hands..

I could be wrong but doesn't the shorttrac with synthetic stock actually have some adjustability in LOP?

I'm in my 60's and this is just exactly what I wanted to hear! :D I'm going shopping asap! Now, do I want a 7mm-08 or the 308? I'll check out the local gun show tomorrow, but this is something that I'll likely have to buy new.
