Browning BLR 358 recommendations

OP, IMO you have done your homework on this - judging by the informative link you posted. Thanks.

For price range my guess would be; for good condition around 650,- to excellent condition around 900,- (shipped) for blued/walnut, non take-down models. I've bought a lightweight (in IMO "excellent condition") in original box with all factory papers, stickers, filler screws, trigger lock, no scratches on metal, no burred screw heads, no bent front sight, rear sight tight with all adjustment screws (also not burred), no noticeable blueing loss in the lever, unmolested wood and finishing... for less than 900,-

Stainless and take-down models may be a bit more.

I prefer the 81 model with steel receiver and straight grip. I have owned two 81s and one pre-81 with the obnoxious magazine. My current 81 in 358 will not get sold. Too good of a woods gun. A good used 81 in 358 should go for $750 or so.

I really like my Pre-81 BLR .358, but it has not left the cabinet in quite awhile... whenever I reach for a .358, I grab one of my Ruger M77 Carbines.

Yeah that protruding mag on the pre 81s really sucks and Browning obviously realized that. Makes them pre 81s to be one of the least desirable models.

Yesterday I handled an 81 all steel with straight stock at a local gun show, totally turned me off and completely lost all interested in a BLR.
Today at the local gun shop I handled a new lightweight with pistol grip, I much prefer this model!
Have yet to find any used bargains so if I go BLR it will likely be brand new.

I liked the newer take down models in a straight stock, makes them easier to clean, I have owned a few and finally realized I like bolt actions more. I liked the newer rifles hammer position options.

I'd buy a BLR 81. All steel receiver and the new style mags.

The pre 81 mags are over $250.
My last one was a 1983 358 ! Real Beauty - went to Sask last year . I’ve owned and shot 4 and ALL have being hunting accurate 1 308 2 358 s 1 450M all had POOR triggers - one I did myself turned out Well but took me weeks to get it done ! All straight grips ! 😊

Forgot I bought a Pistol grip Model in 325 WSM but never did shoot it and Sold .

What cartridge is it chambered in Dan ? Is it a 358 Win ?
It was, yes. Already gone though. I used and worked on a few in 308 and never really got the attraction. In 358 it was a different story. But I dont hunt bears anymore (primary reason I bought it), so away it went. Liked the cartridge, but if I ever build another it will be on something like a Rem 600 receiver. - dan
