Browning BLR 81 in .284 Win....What Would You do?

You have a great cartridge and a good gun. I would keep it. You got it cheap enough that you don't have to sell. Your kids will be happy for the hand me down. You need to reload or have a buddy do it for you. Good luck. Aj
 
I reload, so ammo is not a problem, other than brass might be a little hard to find. Sad part is I let a box of 140gr Sierra Pro Hunters, a box of 145gr Speer Hotcors, and a bag of 150gr Winchester PP go with a 7mm-08 BAR that I sold last fall,... :bangHead:

Supercub,...are you feelin alright??,....did you fall outta bed this mornin and hit your head??...you say trade a steel receiver BLR 284 Winchester for a 7600 Remington???...I think you need to go lay down for a little while until you start feelin better and come back to your senses,..;);) J/K :d

I would keep it and reload for it. Nice rifle and a great cartridge. Use it and enjoy it, you got an excellent deal. Most of my deer have fallen to the 284 win cartridge.
 
Hey folks,..I don't know if anybody is interested or not but I thought I would post an update on the .284 BLR,...and also thank the folks that told me to keep it as a hunter and not sell it. Well,..I decided to keep it and use it as my primary "woods stompin rifle", so I put one of my Red Dot sights on it and carried it every time I went for a stomp. IMO this BLR 81 with the red dot makes just about the perfect combination for hunting deer in our thick Nova Scotia woods, it is a joy to carry,..light, short, quick on target, and accurate as hell, (it turns out this rifle is really accurate with the plane old Winchester 150 pp), and has plenty of knock-down power.

On November 18th I was lucky enough to bump into this nice 8 point,..the .284 did a fine job,..he dressed out 196lb

if I was you, I'd contact me, and offer it for a dollar more than what ya got into it, accept it, and then not hafta worry about what to do with the fit and finish of the rough shape rifle! I just got into the 284 gang/group with a 100, and I am a collector and belover of the BLR rifles.

That is the ideal setup for these rifles. An Aimpoint or like would be great as well.

brass not that much a trouble: there is plenty of 6.5-284 ......

Right on medvedqc,....the rifle came with a box of ammo and I bought 2 more boxes this fall, so that gives me 60 pieces of brass,..that should last me a really long time,..I will probably only fire a couple of shots at the range each year and if I'm lucky only a couple at deer each year.
