Yes Dan that would be pretty good wouldn't it. I think the 88 in 284 would be a bit of a hens tooth.
Not something one sees everyday,but I have seen a few from time to time.Cannot say that I have ever seen a Model 99 284.
A fellow last October had a Winchester Model 100 284 for sale.I believe it was a carbine.Not sure if he sold it or not.
I had a mint Mod. 88 in 284, functioned as smooth as a watch but it was the worst shooting rifle I have ever had, still have boxes of brass & loads somewhere.
However, it is the fastest selling rifle that I have ever parted with..

Keep the BLR in .284Win. The first Winchester "Short Magnum" long before the WSM hype
As stated if you sell it, it will not be replaced easily and the little profit shown will be gone on a new pair of shoes or a dozen large pizza's.
I could have bought one when they came out for a decent price but chose not to seeing as ammo was getting hard and expensive to find for my M100's,.. a carbine and a rifle in .284Win.
I have my BLR81 .308Win sitting next to me right now after a 5 year hiatus from my safe, I carried it for 25 seasons then sold it to a hunting partner 5 years ago, money was tight and I was in want so what a dummy I was, It's here as I just zeroed it for him.
As you already said, in our woods nothing hits harder or is faster to shoulder with a lever on it than a BLR, though I prefer the .308Win flavour. The Remington 742/7400 carbine is the deadliest when the fur is streaking up through a hardwood. Nothing gives aimed follow up shots on the run like an Remmy auto.
I may have some brass kicking around if you get stuck for brass in the future and with a .358Win and a .284Win already, you are well on your way to a nice complete BLR81 all caliber's collection.

Right on RememberTheSomme,....thanks for the brass offer, I will keep that in mind if I ever need some. As for my .358win,...it is a "Pistol Grip" model not a steel receiver 81. The PG model is still a nice gun and is very accurate, but I would rather have the 81 steel receiver. I know a guy around here that has one that he dosen't use and every time I see him I ask him "when are you going to sell me that 358", he just kinda laughs and jokes about it,.....I think/hope I am wearing him down, so I might get it from him yet, lol.
There was a guy here on CGN, I think he may live in Digby, that had a steel receiver 81 308 in mint condition for sale that I would have loved to had, but, as usual, when something comes along that I would love to have I didn't have the money for it so I had to just look and wish, lol.
Mine was absolutely mint, the previous owner had never hunted it.
The only bullet it would shoot to any degree of accuracy was the 115 gr. Speer.
It was hugely disappointing for me when it wouldn't shoot accurately as I am very fond of Win. 88s as well as Savage 99s.

I have never fired my mod 88, its just sitting in my safe. lol. I have a savage 99 as well, mine is a 308 win. The savage is accurate, it surprised me actually. I've heard that the 99 is more accurate than the 88 on average, don't know if thats true or not.
I cannot confirm if one is more accurate than the other except to say that I have had some pretty darned accurate 99s.... which I'm still kicking myself for parting with...
I saw two at the Brandon gun show last week end. I forgot what they were priced at.

Well there ya go,...from what I am reading here I would have to guess that maybe a savage 99 in 284 is rarer than a winchester 88 in 284.
Yes, mine was a perfect fit on the first gun show table that I could put it on...
