Browning BLR 81 opinion

I have a bunch of short action BLR's and love them. I wouldn't own a long action one, though!

I love my stainless BLR. It's the first rifle I grab for if i'm going hunting. I once had to go to a gunsmith with most of the rifle in one hand and a zip lock bag full of the rest of it in the other hand, and he made me promise to never attempt that again. It's still one or two teeth out of perfect on the gears, but that only effects the looks.

In the short action cartridges they are nice, light, handy, accurate rifles with a reliable straight detachable mag. I prefer the pistol grip stock, it allows for a proper cheek weld when using a scope. The triggers seem to range from not very good to poor. The biggest down fall of the newer models with the two part hammer. You can roll the top part ahead when at half-#### for additional safety but with this new hammer style, I'm not aware of anyone who makes a hammer extension for it. So when you have a properly mounted scope it is a tight squeeze to get your thumb on the hammer.

Like any rifle..... After many many rounds fired, I've never had that happen, and I don't know another BLR owner who has. But, maybe it could. Anybody?

Good rifles overall.

Good
- pointy bullets
- excellent mag system
- reliable
- reasonably accurate

Bad
- really low comb
- terrible trigger from factory
- the long action model is stoopid heavy

I have a long action, just have to be sure you cycle the lever all the way.
Had to modify comb to get good weld, used flex sock and inserts from Bass Pro.
Trigger can be modified by replacing trigger spring. Good luck finding a smith willing to do it.
I love mine, thinking of reducing inventory but cannot make my mind up if the BLR is going. We have history
