Browning BLR, Good, Bad, Ugly.

... and the trigger is the worst in the world with a sloppy 20 lbs pull lol!
Yesirrrr, they sure do have crappy triggers, and the combs are way to low for proper scope use. My buddy has a BLR. You need both hand to get it to fire and he has see-thru rings on it.

.

Wonksy - what gives - that's MY 35Whelen 7600 carbine pictured there along with my tacky rec room carpet as well. You going to send me royalties for using that pic?;) I like that shooter.

I got a 358win BLR I like well enough. No issues but haven't hunted it much though.

One of my hunting buds calls his in 308BLR his "confidence builder" cause he hits what he's pointing at every time. Killed lots o deer with it and never a hiccup.

Blr

I have a lots of BLR's. No problems with any of them. A very handy rifle, indeed. I do fine the long action ones to be somewhat of a monster size for me, so I keep only the short action ones, now. Buy one, you'll love it!

I've never owned one. Never will.
Got to work on a number belonging to customers. To be fair, these rifles had been used hard, abused. But lots of other rifles get used hard and abused. I don't have much use for them. Easy to rebarrel, though.
Don't like BL-22s either.

I've owned a pair of (358) BLR's...good meat gun...Especially the 358Win part!

One occasionally refused to go bang...The hammer would drop to half ####....Turned out the problem was that the trigger had been "adjusted"....

Yes, it was me!

The 'smith fixed the problem, but to make it work properly he had to make a crappy trigger pull even worse in the process (sear engagement if I remember right). Bottom line is don't mess with a BLR trigger adjustment yourself....You will be tempted to do so 'cause they really do have a pathetic trigger pull!

The other issue I had was that after a few hundred shots the clips would let go of all the bullets (in stead of one) when you worked the action....causing a nasty jamb. Not a big deal just don't expect them to last forever....especially if you shoot a lot.

A lot of bolt action comparisons get made when speaking of the BLR...load one hot and you will see how little they have in common with a bolt action...Plan on taking it to a 'smith to get it open! Ya, ya, ya, me again!
Accuracy was enough to get the job done, but bolt action guys wont be impressed.

Despite all the shooting issues the BLR occasionally has it really does make a great general purpose hunting rifle.

I have the BLR in a .308. Love it! nothing stops it with a 165gr. Awesome quad and all around rifle. Everytime I go out, I go with the intent of taking my 300 win mag, but at the last second, I always fall back on old faithful. Would love to have that same gun in an 30-06. If I had that rifle, I'd get rid of the rest.

One of my friends bought one in .308 (because he is left handed and could not afford a decent left handed bolt action) He has owned and used this rifle for years without ever having a problem with it. Accurate, and fast, i enjoyed shooting it myself several times.

I have a pre-81 blr in 308. takin a pile of deer with it.Only issue I had was to replace the spring that holds the mag in place with a stronger one. Mag would fall out the odd time when the rifle was fired.
Been a good shooter, I like the gun besides its the first gun my old man gave me.

I have a BLR 81 (steel) in 358 Win. It shoots 1 1/4 " 3 shots @100 yds with 225 gr, Noslers, nothing wrong with that . I also had one in 284 Win. I shot 5 whitetails with it from 50 - 250 yds with 160 gr Speers . No problems. I get 2 shots touching then the third opens the group but if you let it cool down it will put it right beside the other two :D

Excellent rifles! I would stick with the shorter gun (short action/non-magnum) if you are looking for a quad gun.
Great magazine system, accurate, and reliable. What else is there?

Mine has fozen up when it is really cold out. You have to keep snow, needles and other crude out of the bolt, hard to do when doing winter drives. The internals require a level of expertise to thoroughly clean. As someone has said already they need to be properly timed. I have never bothered taking min apart but it is about due.

Accuracy is OK, 1-1.5 inches at 100 yards, first 2 shots, 3rd makes it 2-3inches.

My 308 has shot approx 12 moose and a few deer.

Maybe it is just me.....

My regular hunting partner bought one. We are both gun addicts looking to own one of everthing. It was a 308 and I swear it kicked harder than a 338 mag. Shot well, killed everything it was pointed at but for whatever reason, the perceived recoil was way out of context for what you were holding in your hands.

Now the good part, when shot side by side with a Model 88, the 88 had much less felt recoil, accuracy was similiar, and UGLY part? The 88 was one of the prettiest rifles to ever be discontinued!
