Browning BLR in .308?

While not a Browning, the Remington 7600 pumps are know for accuracy and dependability. They also use detachable magazines and are less expensive than the BLRs. Very fast follow up shots, probably faster than a lever. My brother-in-law has used one as his main moose/deer gun for decades. He bought a second as a backup but after years of it sitting in the cabinet unused, he gave it to his son.

I didn't ask about the 7600, Im interested in the Browning BLR.

With a BLR is it possible to have a BLR-81 with a steel receiver and a gold trigger?

.308

Well I took the plunge today and thanks to another CGN member who tipped me off that Williams Arms in Ontario had a nice used BLR for sale. I drove out there this morning.

I am now the proud owner of a BLR-81 steel receiver in .308 with a Leupold VX-II 1-4 power scope!!! The entire package is in excellent condition with two tiny nicks on the stock and thats it.

A hammer spur will help with cocking when in a rush. In the early fall the rifle is great. I have shot a lot of moose and deear with mine.

I have a 308 BLR and I don't consider it a bush gun. Ice, needles and twigs will get in the receiver which is a pain in the butt to disassemble and clean.

Mine has also frozen up on me while beating the bush in the snow and cold up (-5c that day I beleive) here in N Ontario, with the hammer in the cocked position. Once we get snow and cold weather my BLR stays home. I am going out tomorrow and my Tikka T3 will be going.

I have had a hard time getting a real accurate load in mine but it will shoot 1-1.5 inches at 100 yards. There is always 1 flier in a group of 3.

:D

I have a Browning BLR "Takedown" in .308 Winchester with a 2-7x33mm Leupold perched on it.

It will print 3/4" keyholes in the center of the target paper @ 100 yds. all day long with the "cheapie" factory 150 grain Remington Core-Lokt ammo........$19 a box !

The Core-Lokt bullets I dug out of sand held most of their weight and "mushroomed" well.

I had heard rumors of the Core-Lokts core separating from the jacket.........not so with the bullets I fired into sand & inspected later.

Why waste time developing a load when you can buy ammo that gives sub-MOA groups for < $20 a box?

Congrads! Good to see you with an excellent combo. (BLR & Leupy) You'll be in 7th heaven, just like me with mine! Great price for that combo, too! Got a Bud that just bought a brand new BLR and he's talking about buying a cheap A$$ 2-bit scope for it! That just ain't right! Happy shoot'en........

Thanks...

About 70% of the big game hunting I do is in the bush, this is a nice rifle to carry all day for deer, moose and black bear. If I am ever hunting farm land I know I can stretch out a shot to 200 yards if needed with the .308. I owned a 30-30 lever and a 30-06 bolt but never liked either all that much. This is kind of an all in one big game rifle and I am looking foward to hunting with it!!!

You can also buy kits for a shoulder sling. I replaced the bolt at the front of the stock (where wood meets barrel with the same type of bolt, only longer) and got a sling swivel piece (not sure how else to describe this, the word escapes me right now) for the rear stock.

Voila! about $20.00 later my BLR 81 lightweight has a shoulder sling for those long walks. I'll have to take pictures of it, this post might make more sense then. lol

I got mine w/o scope at WSS in edmonton for about 800.00 (gst not included) in 2007. You did pretty good! those leupys are nice scopes.

I know two fellows with .308 BLR's. They are both happy with very happy with them and I've been generally impressed with the quality of the ones I've handled.

EDIT - I just saw the pics of your setup. You're good to go now! Very nice!
