Browning BLR Mangling Brass Problem

Hi lads,

Just got a nearly brand new 3006 BLR light weight from a friend, he took it to range once and never touched it for years.

I tried it with dummy cartidges, but it turns out the bottom of the bolt will just mangle the brass badly, leaving a quite deep scratche on it, especially when the mag is fully loaded with 4 rounds. As I do hand loads for myself, I certainly cant bear with it.

Did some search online, some ppl claimed they dont have the problem, and some said its inevitable.

So anyone has some experience can be shared? Will a new mag solve the problem or maybe just avoid load the mag to full?

I have a BLR in 222 Remington. One of my extra mags is a beast to get into and out of the magwell. It also scratches that top casing of full capacity kind of ugly too.
Browning QA can sometimes be spotty with rifles built in Belgium, Montreal, Utah and Japan. My other mags flawless operation.
 
Hasegawa! If your rifle is still under warranty IIRC they have to replace the faulty part.
In my case this rifle was too old to honor warranty.
It's worth a phone call and might save you $100 the cost of a new magazine. Of course is based upon your serial number the rifle.

Pics of the situation would be nice. Never seen a Miroku BLR or mag that would mangle brass.

Except for a few years in the late 1970's all BLR rifles are made in Japan. The early guns were made in Belgium and none were ever built in Montreal or Utah.

Clean your mags and look for burs on the feed rails. Also clean the action paying special attention to the bottom of the bolt through the mag well.
