Browning BLR - thoughts?

I love the ballistics of 358 - seems like a fantastic cartridge. I'm worried about ammo availability though. I'm not in a position to reload right now and there seems to be a real dearth of factory ammunition in that calibre.

I source .358 hornady custom and buffalo bore ammo pretty easily....always a couple dealers in Canada who have some in stock, or someone who will bring it in. It is more expensive than .308 though. Just buy a bunch when you find it and you're all set.

I guess the trade off when deciding to decide which of those two calibres you want is, is being able to shoot the heavier projectile with the broader frontal area worth the cost of more expensive ammo that is harder to find?

How much harder to find is the ammo? How much more expensive is it?

How much terminal performance improvement can you expect over 308? Is it enough of a difference to make the extra effort worthwhile?

As many have mentioned above, they are great rifles (at for those of who like this style of rifle). And they are a lot of fun!
Some prefer the pistol grip, while others (such as myself) prefer the straight grip.
Triggers are terrible, but every now and then, you do come across one that isn't too bad. You just have to learn the trigger on your rifle. I've had ones that will shoot MOA. Will never part with my pre-81 in 358 Win. Would love to find one in 257 Roberts!
I have not yet owned a T/D, but do want one. Those that have them have stated that they do maintain there zero pretty reliably when taking down and reassembling. But as with any firearm, you should re-verify their zero before any hunt after travelling. Would like the stainless/laminate version. Will I take it down often...probably not, but is a nice option.

The 308 will be fine for what you are planning, but if you do get a 358, there is ammo available from Hornady and Buffalo Bore as mentioned. HSM also makes ammo with the SGK bullets. Hopefully Winchester will make another run soon.
Once you have harvested some big game with the 358, you will see why there is a cult following for this cartridge. It is a fun rifle in this cartridge!

Very accurate rifles capable of sub moa yes heavy trigger pull live with it if you shoot it enough you will learn to shoot it accurately. The 308 is capable of dispatching any North American animal even a large bear if need be they are not made of Kevlar a180 gr or 200 gr quality bullet will penetrate the heaviest bone and hide . Your choice perfect for your needs .

Nice rifles, triggers usually suck, thereby hampering accuracy. Minute and a half is common, sometimes they can be coaxed to do better, but then the trigger costs you any accuracy gains.
Previously owned and used about 8 of them since the early 90's. When they get a lot of use they sometimes drift out of timing, a pain to correct.

What do you mean precisely by 'drift out of timing'?
