I'm thinking about picking up one of these for my first hunt but hear the triggers suck, otherwise it sounds perfect for me in 308, maybe even 3o-06. A decently accurate gun that a hand loader can take advantage of (box mag) that can also pump out rounds if ambushed by zombies or bears

Anyone have a solution for the crummy trigger, or another decent modern lever action? If it's as bad as every one says i might just get a model 70 , first shoot accuracy being far more important anyway

fear not, the BLR trigger is not as bad as you have heard about! grab that BLR and enjoy! I have many BLR's and they all have factory triggers! and a tip, get the short action, the long action is a monster! good luck and good shoot'en.

Well, long time no hear! Is that BLR short action 308 in the mail? Not to worry, you won't be sorry! GARY where the hell are you? Need some re-insurance here for the OP!

Sorry, newbie here. I am looking at my first deer rifle and my friend really likes his BLR. What do you mean the long action is a monster. Is it the recoil? There is so much out there it can be a bit overwhelming.

No, not the recoil. As a friend of mine described it as "clunky". It seems to be such a large action. Got another friend with a BLR in the long action 270 and he likes it just fine. Of coarse he is a big guy with long arms. Just stop in a gun shop, shoulder and cycle a short action and then try a long action. You may not notice much differance or you may pick one over the other. Good Luck. Hopefully you will pick the right one for you. I have many BLR's, all are short action and I love them all, so dearly!

Mine is suposed to be five pounds, but it sure don't feel like five pounds.
Releases nicely.
And for any of you that know me, I really am trigger fussy.
It's best to watch the target, not worry about what the heck the
trigger is suppose to do.
Some like really big hooters, I like light triggers.
Go git it b'fore sumone elses beats you to it.

The ones I have,some are better than others.Its a 284,not a 308,as I already have a pile of them.The triggers are not x bolt nice,but what is?I just tried a couple 88's,and a long and short action BLR.Feel pretty good to me.

Try one out for yourself.

Nothing wrong with a bolt action.Better choices out there. If you are listening to everyone that says they are bad,you are not listening to everyone.

I fired a few shots out of a BLR in 7mmremmag today, and it had by far the worst trigger that I have ever used. I have never felt so much creep in a trigger.

I myself am just curious, i have been looking for a 308 in a BLR and am curious if it is worth while to get one that was made in belgium or japan?

I guess a person could say the trigger is somewhat heavy, but it's not a huge deal when a person is hunting. You only really notice it when sighting in or trying new bullets or reloads.

I have the 7mm08 and this thing is accurate. Gun is well made, and puts meat on the table.

Do I have guns with lighter triggers? Yes. Don't get thrown off and not buy a BLR. In my opinion it is the best lever being sold today. I just cannot get myself to own a new marlin lever. Remington has completely ruined the new marlins by cutting costs and wrecked a reputable name in the firearm industry.

BLR triggers are not that bad from the box in my experience. I did have a warranty issue with a sear spring a couple of years ago though and I took it to Long's in Bewdley ON on Rice Lake. The gunsmith there asked me if I wanted him to improve the trigger while he had the gun apart, to which I replied "Yes." A simple spring substitution and a fair trigger became a good trigger. I was impressed with the fellow's work and the new trigger.

Don't, BTW, try taking a BLR apart at home unless you are a very competent person in this regard. ;)

I own a BLR in .308. My first hunting rifle and I am fairly new to shooting as well as hunting. While the trigger may not be as light or crisp as others, this ,IMHO is an amazing rifle and very accurate for putting meat on the table. And like others have said, when you got that deer in your sights, you won't be noticing a slightly heavier trigger. Nt many box magazine levers out there, let alone ones that lock up almost like a bolt action.
Get it and you won't regret it!
