if the BLR has the pistol grip, make sure you like it before buying one with it. I greatly prefer without.

I'm not 100% sure, but there may be an aftermarket composite stock available for BLR's. I had a blondie wood one that someone darkened up and didn't do a fantastic job on it, so I thought of getting a composite stock for it, but that was right around the time I through in the towel on wild hog hunting and sold the rifle. I can't afford a 25K Argo to go in and get them! It was in 358 that I bought "especially" for hog hunting.
 
My BLR is very accurate with hand loads, but I haven't run any factory ammo through it. From what I have read I think most people get good accuracy with their BLR's with factory stuff.

Right on fredie,....that will make you a very nice rifle. One thing everybody forgot to mention about the BLR,.. is it is really a lever actuated bolt action anyway. I don't think you will be disappointed.

We tried to steer you away from the long action BLR, so don't say we didn't warn you...

LOL,...Ya, it will be loonng, it will be heavy, and the trigger will be a bit heavier than some bolts, but the man seems to want the BLR, so in the end it's still a nice rifle,....we gave our advice, be it right or wrong,....so again, in the end, it's his choice.

Personally for that caliber I would have stuck with a bolt action,...but I think he will be OK with the lever.
 
OP, before you follow through on that decision, pick up a short action BLR in the shop and cycle the lever a couple of times. Then do the same thing with the long action.

I think the only people who buy the long action BLR are those who never even tried the short action.

Seriously...you MUST try both before buying. It's got nothing to do with the fact that the action is a wee bit longer, but rather with the ridiculously longer amount of lever travel required to cycle the longer cartridges.

Op i believe you made the right choice with the blr,i can't comment on the long action as i have never cycled one,but am very curious to try now that i have read this.It can't be that bad!!!!!
 
I have a BLR takedown stainless in .308 with laminate stock and love it. It is Japanese built with super tight tolerances and expert fit and finish. The chamber is hand-lapped, so save your brass and use it exclusively for reloading for the BLR. The brass doesn't have much wiggle room to expand if you know what I mean. I am keeping my BLR until doomsday. I love the front fibre optic sight as well. When plinking, I hit what I aim at so that's all that matter to me. If I wanted a target rifle I would buy something else and mount a scope on it. I had my Ruger Scout rifle that I sold after I bought the BLR. Yes, the BLR was the perfect scout rifle years before Ruger's came along. The takedown option makes it nice to throw into any pack at a moment's notice. I love it! The Sako A7 may be more accurate but I doubt it is as satisfying to use as the BLR.
