Browning BOSS vs. Browning Muzzle Break

Just wondering if anyone would know the recoil reduction difference between the Browning BOSS system and there now standard factory muzzle breaks? Their BOSS system they mention a ~30% reduction but I see no info about their factory muzzle breaks. This would be on a .300 WSM. Any knowledge would be helpful.

I had a 300 wsm with the boss. Reduced recoil significantly but the muzzle blast was hideously unpleasant. I tried using the CR non boss but it still seemed too loud so I sold it. I now have an a bolt with no muzzle brake and it sounds normal. I put a limbsaver pad on mine and it seems fine to shoot. The only way I would ever go back to a muzzle brake is if I had one I could use for target only and then put a cap on it for hunting. And I personally will never own a browning with a factory brake again. Be happy with your hearing because you won't have it very long.

My experience - most brakes and Bosses are not any louder if you are the shooter and out in the open... they appear louder when shooting at a range All shooting at a range is loud and that is why hearing protection is mandatory. (reflection from the bench and roof) and the blast blows stuff off the bench... They are louder to anyone beside you... but out in the open you won't damage your ears any more than shooting with no brake... All center fires are loud.

The Boss works very well allowing you to dial in the best accuracy with factory ammo.

How come Browning is then moving away from the BOSS system and just doing breaks on most .300+ calibers?
 
Shot a deer with a 308win with a break on it........................Never again break came off soon as i got home. So yea there loud to the shooter
 
For browning the BOSS system didn't become a popular addition to their rifles. With hunting rifles a large muzzle brake is not that attractive, the inline small ones following the barrel contour make more sense and look a lot better.

I actually owned a BOSS equipped rifle, and after shooting one shot in an open field while hunting,I can assure you that it is much louder to the shooter than an unbraked rifle.
 
I owned a 300 Win Mag with a Boss and in the open I don't think it was any louder than any other 300 Win Mag... unfortunately I did not own an unbraked 300 Win Mag to compare... but undoubtedly a 300 Win Mag is loud, braked or not. Every shooters perception is their own however.

I have a couple different brakes on different guns and the browning boss like my smith enterprise on the m1a aren't to bad but louder now my seekins absolutely hurts my ears . I think the diff is the porting the boss and smith have straight holes and the seekins is slotted angle design which is more effective on recoil but evil on the ears

So the BOSS is a more effective recoil reducer? The loudness I am not as worried about since I use electronic muffs. I have shot with a BOSS and I like the recoil reduction I have to admit since I like my scope closer to my eye than most. I just want to make sure I am not getting a muzzle brake that is not as effective as the BOSS. That is my big concern.
