Has anyone has experence handloading and using the BOSS I have a 300 win mag A bolt I would like to start loading and I was wondering if anyone has found any helpful tips to tuning it with hand loads.
thanks!
Im using the same rifle ,with 168 gr barnes tsx ,78.5 gr rel 22, wlrm primer and hornady brass ,col 3.350, 3200fps.
The sweet spot for this load on my boss is set on 1.
I can shoot 1/2 inch groups all day with this load .
Wear good ear protection because those boss system are loud!
Was it hard to find the sweet spot on the boss, how far did you move it each time till you found that 1 worked? did you go as far as 1/2 or 1/4 turn? I want to try Accu bond 180 grain rem brass win lr primers and H1000 powder. I heard it should be good. I also heard the barnes wernt good at max loads, no stability but seems like you got it going on!!
LOL !
To be honest it wasnt hard its the setting that browning listed in the book that came with the rifle for 165 gr bullet factory loads. For 180 gr I would try 81/2 to 9 boss setting.Havent had any issues with the tsx bullet best bullet I ever shot for accuracy so far for me ,knocks deer and elk down .
A good friend of mine bought an Eclipse a few years ago and up to this day, he never really got it to work properly. So i guess it's a different story from one shooter to an other.
I have the same rifle as well. The boss is still set at 0 out of the box. I found that with most loads, best accuracy(>1/2MOA) was at max load or just a tad under.
As Vic suggested, see what you can do with handloading techniques, then fiddle with the BOSS if you think you need to.
Thanks guys, ya i'm going to try and tune the load as much as possible then work on the BOSS. guys at my hunt camp have really good luck with them, really accurate, but they have different calibers or bullet weight or kind than I would like to shoot. Just wanted to get some input before I started and I appreciate it!! thanks!
My Win 70 Super Grade was really fussy when the temperature shifted 10 Degrees one way or another than the day I set the boss. Groups would open up very fast. You can get a CR piece to replace the brake. I would highly recommend it. I thought my ears were going to bleed after shooting mine with protection.
