I took out my browning stainless bps today, and shot no5 shot target loads, and was quite surprised how well it did. then switched to no 7.5 shot, and hit every one. the main trap shooter, before he left, said I be lucky to hit anything. I love the green front sight. would any of the regular trap shooters, be not impressed if I took it, to one of the shoots? being a marine magnum type shotgun?

Were you shooting regulation trap, or using a portable clay thrower, or hand thrown targets? Shooting 25 straight at regulation trap with a short barreled BPS would be impressive.

Only thing against using it for trap is the #5 loads, max 7.5 is for safety at many clubs. The shotfall zone is 300yrds and some clubs have to adhere strictly to that, thus the 7.5 limit! As far as shooting ata trap, the only gun restrictions I can think of are no bigger than 12ga, and guns that can chamber two different guages, other than that go nuts! Ignore the dirty looks from the few, the rest will be glad to see you at the range, even if your gun is non typical!

There are many components to shooting sports but most important for me is having fun doing it. If there is no specific club rule about barrel length than there is no reason not to take your marine BPS. Every club I have been to requires shot of #7.5 or smaller for trap and most clubs seem to stick with #9 for skeet. Again, those numbers usually have to do with location of the field relative to the property line as all shot must land on the club property.

I'd like to hear how you do as shooting trap with a 18.5" cylinder barrel might be pretty challenging but you will have fun doing it. You should try skeet with that gun as well.

I use my BPS for trap every week, it is 28" barrel with thread in chokes. Besides the fact that I can't hit the broad side of a barn with a shotgun it works pretty good. No comments so far, except at the skeet field where they said I should get an O/U. I mostly shoot trap now, so it works good for that.
