Browning BSS 20ga make date help please!

Just took a nice little Browning BSS, 20 ga in on trade. Went to the Browning site and couldn't determine the year it was made. My S# doesn't seem to fit into their format:confused:. My # is 7191B57 -- hope someone can help??

According to Wikipedia, it's 1975. Doesn't make sense though - WR1894's would have to have been made in 1927.
 
According to a guy on the Browning forum on Shotgunworld, Browning started using a 2-letter date identifier in 1976. This would place both your guns between 1971 and 1975.

That makes more sense.
 
I have anice BSS Sporter in 20ga, and i'll never sell it. Very beautiful upland gun.

A friend of mine just picked up a mint condition BSS Sporter in 20ga as well. The old man just wanted to get rid of it, and let it go for $400!!!! I guess we all get lucky sometimes in this game...

I'm with you. Doubles with beaver tails have always felt clumsy to me. I do have one SXS with a beaver tail that shoots well - but that's a whole other story. Lots of shooters like them, though - totally a matter of preference.

Nice custom BSS on Cabella's. How about the case colors on the trigger guard!!!

Yep, I agree -- the only beavertails I really enjoy is the ones when walking ahead of you look that like 2 babies wrestling!:evil:

I have a BSS with similar serial number nomenclature. It does not fit what I found on the Browning web site so I called Browning and they indicated that mine was built in 1975. From your serial number, I would suggest that it was built in 1971

They are beautiful little SXS's ...

If she sells at the Moncton show - I'd be curious to know what she goes for. A mint 20ga., according to Browning can fetch in the ballpark of $1200 US

Love to see a pic too...
