Considering an X-Bolt at my local gun shop - great deal, comes with the black "carbon fiber" stock and fluted stainless barrel (I know it does not have any actual carbon fiber, just a finish). Anyone have any durability issues with the Browning "carbon fiber" finish on a rifle or shotgun? If there are any issues with it, I'l simply opt for the "regular" Stainless Stalker - although I really do like the fluted barrel on the Carbon Fiber versions.

It's called a "Duratouch" finish I believe.

Hunted with mine for a couple seasons through the thick stuff, and didn't look any worse than any other synthetic stalk after going through the same.

There are some reports of peeling on the interwebs but I believe it was blamed on early bad batches, so I never worried.

Only benefit to wood, or even a traditional synthetic, is that you can refinish it down the road, where the duratouch would not allow paint to stick.

All that said, it works very well, and is very grippy in all weather.
