Browning citori 425 sporting clay question (pics)

Hi guys

A guy I know wants to sell me his "Browning citori 425 sporting clay 12ga." It would be my first shotgun to go clay shooting.

I have 2 questions:
How good/bad is this shutgun
What would be a fair price for a used Browning citori 425 sporting clay?

hi first does the shotgun fit you ? Did you get a chance to take it out to shoot with it ,also it is a citori and they are a solid action and little to no trouble .As for value it is really on the physical condition of the specimin as they are getting to be an older item .
If it fits you and you shoot it well it will give you many years of service.
 
You can go wrong with a Citori, See if he will let you try it, I have done that with several people that bought guns from me. The 425 was a decent model , much better choice than a bargin basement o/u. If for some reason you want to replace it you get your money back
 
The gun pictured looks to be a 425 sporting 28" bbls ? it does have some very nice wood with figure .is the action release lever still right of center and the hinge still stiff ? does the gun fit you if so the 425 is a solid built gun . fair price is between the buyer and the seller . I am thinking $ 2000.00 to 2500.00 would be the price range in most gun shops .
 
In very good condition with the top lever well right of center this gun with the case would be worth $2,000 give or take a hundred or two either way. If this is the entire package it comes with three chokes assuming there are two in the gun already and you'd probably want two or three more for clay shooting. IIRC the case didn't come with the gun and was probably purchased afterwards so that makes the package more attractive. There is nothing wrong with a 28" barrel but the tendency in clay target shooting is toward longer barrels and the shorter guns are not as easy to sell.

Thanks for the information! I will talked to the owner to be able to try it... and if it's too much of a problem, I will probably let it go... I'm not in such a hurry to get one and the money saved by buying it used is not that great... and I will be able to take the time too really research the subject and make up my mind on a model (which is half of the fun of buying a gun right?). I am no expert. But I have both a Browning 325 with 28" barrels and just recently bought a Browning 725 with 30" barrels. I really struggled on barrel length and compromised on 30" vs 32". So far I have not been disappointed with my decision. But I admit I have not shot my 725 much. We are now in to our cold Manitoba winter so that likely won't change till spring.

There is considerable difference in the "feel" of the 725. It feels lighter and as others have said to me I now feel the 325 is a bit "whippy". Having said that I like them both but really like my 725. Maybe just cause it is new.

Your 425 has very nice wood on it. But if the price is closer to $2500 you are getting very close to a 725. Food for thought. Enjoy your search.
 
That's a twin to one I've been shooting the past 10 years except mine has the 30 inch barrels.
I paid 1500 for mine used after I sold my Citori Ultra for the same amount.
A new 725 Sporting will set you back north of 3 thousand.
Great shotguns and as reliable as they come.
