So I just picked up my first shotgun. I got it from an older gentleman who's "retired" from trap and skeet shooting after a hip replacement. I'm trying to find out some information about it - went to the Browning website, and I can't get anywhere with determining the model, which will give me an idea of whether I paid too much for it or got a good deal.

The serial number is ###xxPT1B3. The "PT" means that the year of manufacture is 1986, but the Browning website does not list what model the 1B3 is - it's not on the list. It's an over/under 12 ga. 28" bbl with Invector chokes - not fixed. There's some engraving on the receiver.

Does anyone have an idea of what the 1B3 model is?

I had some questions about one I bought a few years ago. I called Browning and asked for the librarian. They will send you a wack of info for a 25 dollar charge but if you grovel a bit and just need the answer to one question, they will help you out, at least they did for me. Don't forget the grovelling part....

Actually, after posting this, I decided to call up Browning and ask them.

They weren't sure why the suffix isn't on their website but they'll check into it. Anyhow, what I have is a 1986 Browning Citori Skeet Grade I in 12 gauge, in excellent condition. I think I got pretty lucky to pick it up for a great price based on the quick research I did at work (my employer's firewall doesn't let me get at many firearms related sites), it's a real treasure and I'm proud to own it.

Now I just need to find a case for it that doesn't break my bank - my wife's already unamused by my spending a bunch of money on a gun.
