I posted here last winter about the black tarnish stains that had developed on my stainless/nickel Browning BLR after only one season of use. The stains were predominately around the receiver where I carried the gun in my left hand. Some posters here were curious what the outcome would be when I sent it back to Browning so here is the update.

Last February the gun was sent back to Browning as the store where I purchased it agreed it was an unusual tarnish. Today the saga concluded when I heard from the store that Browning (the gun went to Browning's Canadian distributor first and then to Browning HQ in Utah) said the black tarnish was most likely the result of the pH level of my skin. They said this was very unusual, but not unheard of. I could either have the tarnished gun back or they would send me a new blued/wood version.

I've opted for the second option and will sell the gun once I get it. All told, I'll lose a bit of $$, but in the end I'm pretty pleased overall with Browning's customer service.

Take home message - if you like the look of the nickel plated stainless BLR's, make sure your skin agrees!

If you sell it on the EE, you might actually make $$.

(The preceding was meant as humour. Not intended to start another "How crazy are the used guns on the EE debate)
