Thinking of getting a 20 ga. O/U shotgun - Browning's Cynergy Field has caught my attention. I'd be using it largely hunting, but am looking at sporting clays, skeet, trap as offseason activities.

I'd like to hear from other shotgunners who've handled and shot this gun about their experiences.

Thanks in advance,

John, I like the Cynergy, and consider it a unique and innovative design. If you like the aesthetics, there is nothing else like it. The real question is, can you shoot it? The length of pull on the Cynergy is only 14 1/4 inches, and hard to change because of the oddly shaped pad. The only 20 gauges I have seen in Canada have had the walnut stocks, which do not have the comb adjustment feature. All of the Cynergys I have thrown to my shoulder leave me looking down on the rib, I shoot high with all of them. But that is me, for all I know the gun may fit you to a tee. Just be sure you can hit anything with it before you buy. As an alternative with more conventional lines, look at a Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon S in 20 gauge. It is easier to make this gun fit you by altering LOP (Beretta supplies a variety of pads).

Sharptail, how is cast on the Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon S?

Being a lefty, I'd prefer something with neutral cast. The Cynergy Field I'm told has neutral or essentially neutral cast. I've also been told that it is possible to get extra pads to adjust the length of pull on the Cynergy.

I'm going to have to spend some serious time in the gunshops soon....:)

John, the appearance of additional pads for the Cynergy is a good thing. As far as cast goes, I believe that the Silver Pigeon S has about an 1/8th of an inch of cast off. Something tells me you can order a left hand stock, but it might take some time to get. Spend the time in the gunshops, and don't be in too much of a hurry. Check out David Henry's place in Bentley for the Caesar Guerini U/O's (dhenrygunmakers.com). The Cynergy could be the gun for you, it's just nice to be sure.
