Anyone else have a Browning Double auto kickin around? I love the one i have but i rarely come across any info on them, so if anyone knows much about them, or anything about them, please feel free to share.

There are a few of us here that love them, but far and away the best site is the browning forum at shotgunworld.com. Doug, AMG and a few others have collections of double auto's we could only dream of!! Doug has actually helped me on buying a couple via e-mail. Great folks there.

I have seen quite a few for sale over the years, could never quite figure out why they were invented. I could have bought several for less than $300 but passed since they seem to have combined the ungainly lines and handling of a semi with the 2 shot limitations of a double, without a double's style and classic handling qualities. I prefer 3 shooters or real doubles. But some people must love them, what is the appeal? Please enlighten me.

balance for one longwalker. Without the need for a mag tube, they had been able to balance the gun perfectly. The idea behind Val Browning's idea I think was far ahead of it's time. Not everyone could afford a superposed back in the day, so the 2 shot design put the double auto even with the superposed shot wise. They are all handmade, light, balanced shotguns.

The glory of a double with a single barrel.
I think they are a great idea.
And a cross between a single shot and an A-5.
Less weight to pack as well.
On my list to get one day.

OK thanks for enlightening me. If they delivered the handling qualities of a double that is a real plus for the design, but I think I'll stick with double barrels myself.

i always make sure to take it on a grouse trip a couple times a season, its so nice to carry all day, it some what suprises me that nobody else makes something like this now, or even browning re-releasing it, its such a balanced gun.

I've got a Twelvette. Only autoloader that I've found that feels like a double, but that said I prefer O/Us. I haven't shot it in years.

You can take the barrel off faster than you can say "take the barrel off", and it may be lightest recoiling 12 I own. Many of them found a home in the clay target games, back in the day.

"Handcrafted"? According to whom? Winchester? Perhaps some minor handfitting but no production semi-auto shotgun was or ever will be "handcrafted" IMHO.

double auto

I have 3 and like them very much. My favourite has the steel reciever with a Cutts comp. Very nice shooting gun . I only use it for sporting clays but it does a great job when I do my part. Most folks who have used mine like it very much. If you find one, I don't think you will be sorry if you buy it.
