I've hunted with shotguns a fair bit-mostly pumps and SxS's- but most my experience is with rifles.
My friends are getting me into the sporting clays games this summer though-looking for a gun to use.
I see on the EE there is a new-in-box semi browning called the 'Browning Gold-Golden Clays '. Looks like a nice gun. :) Its 2 3/4" which is fine by me-will be used only for clays.
I really know little or nothing about these guns; even semis in general. Does browning make a good semi? Would this gun be good for my intended purpose?
Seems like a great deal if the gun is a good one. Thanks for any input.

Browning puts out a nice auto-loading shotgun. The same company owns Browning and Winchester, and the new Silver line of Browning shotguns shares a great many parts with the ever popular Winchester SX3.

Anyhow, the gun you pointed to looks nice, if not slightly overpriced(10 BTTs generally indicates an overpriced item). FWIW, I recently bought a brand new 3" 12ga Browning Silver Lightning for just over $1000, tax in.

Do a bunch of comparison shopping before you make a final decision, and make sure you handle the gun in question before you buy. Good luck, brother!!!

This is the one i was looking at. 73 BTT's but is a dealer and they've got a pile of guns on the same thread. Nice looking gun :) If its functional, as you say, maybe its worth the $$$.

Based on the pics it looks like it's a Prophet River gun. I didn't check what they were asking, but the gun in question looks mint and although I haven't dealt with Clay, his reputation amongst CGNers speaks volumes about his products and service.......

Yes, that's one of ours. Retail in the US was $2499, not that anyone ever really pays full retail and dealer cost was close to $2000 USD. We got a deal on three of these; two sold already, and we may be able to find a few more.
Ièll leave it to informed members here to let you know what they think of the quality of these guns. They are èwell doneè when it comes to looks. Ièm not much for engraving and gold inlays but its nice on these guns IMHO" :)

I have one of these and have put close to 10,000 rounds through it. Still looks awesome and all it's cost me is a $5.95 o-ring.

Many of my shooting buddies have bought them also, but the standard grade, not the golden clays.

You will NOT be disappointed with this. Also, I have dealt with Clay and you will be pleased with the transaction, too.

Yep, that should be a great gun. I have a standard Gold sporting clays, and my wife has the women's gold sporting clays. Both have treated us well, but they sure don't look as nice as that Golden clays model. The more I look at it, the more I want it myself! If you buy that one, I might have see if they can more!

Get em while you can, because Browning no longer makes the Gold. It's been repalced by the silver, and the new maxus.

I don't know why, the golds were always a great gun. Gixer.

That is one beautiful shotgun. I have never shot a round of clays with a semi auto, always with O/U or a pump gun I bought that I thought had way too nice wood and engraving on to leave in a gun shop. My only thought on what you said in your post is you are happy with the 2 3/4 inch chamber. I was when I bought all my guns even thought they all take 3 inch as well. I have come to do more hunting with them than clay shooting the last 5-7 years mainly because of a family arrival and not being able to afford the money to spend on every weekend and with the requirement of non toxic shot everywhere I seem to want to go to hunt having the 3 inch ability is a real bonus (not sure of the 3 1/2 necessity yet for me). The gun I shoot the best (least misses on the clay range and the most kills when hunting) is O/U I always shot clays with. Kind of makes me think practice makes perfect so to speak. Not saying I am an expert shot nor a lousing one, just my experience.

I think we might have a couple of more coming. They are discountinued; hence the better price, but there will be no more .

I have a Browning gold hunter which has the same basic action and I have ran well over 10000 target loads through it with no major problems.

You guys that have bought them; do they look as good in person? Also, do they work well?

Well I have bought one and I did see it in person but I haven't shot mine yet. I believe all of these are coming with 30 inch barrels. May be something to consider if all you have ever shot is a 28 inch barrel. Plus these guns are ported so that can be a little loud.
I should get a chance to shoot mine next week. FS

I have a gold hunter superlight in 20 guage which I have put 4 or 5 cases through and it works great. Two different regular shooters at our club had these golden clay sporting versions and both had problems. One got spooked off his because it doubled a couple of times on him (one trigger pull, 2 shots). The other could not get the gun to operate without 3 dram load which seems strange given this is a 2 3/4" target gun.

Bought the Sporting Clays Gold as a christmas present for the wife...Looks and shoots great, she just won her first Meat shoot match at the club with it.
Many offers to buy it, ( I keep teasing her by saying I am trading it for an AR, and she was getting nervous until the transfer into her own name came through. Now she feels better knowing it is not registered in my name anymore)
She loves it.

Be sure to post a report and pics. I missed out on the last one , however, looks like they've got more coming anyway. Perhaps I should have made the deal before I posted it up. LOL ;)
