A friend called me about one of his old handguns. Stolen many years ago it has now been recovered and is sitting with the police in very good shape. He no longer has his restricted and I offered if it was not to much headache to transfer it to myself and sell it for him rather than seeing it smelted. Any idea pricewise what such a handgun would be worth? Mid 80's browning hi power in 9mm with walnut grip? I had a look around but the prices seemed all over the place. Thanks
 
$ 700 to $ 800 depending on condition ? That's just a wild guess. My wife reminds me that I've been wrong in the past.

Well if he is a good enough friend, he will let you have it for less than retail. If you don't take it, who knows what its fate will be in the hands of the cops. I hope he would rather see a friend buy it for a cheap price than have the cops destroy it or whatever they do with unclaimed recovered guns.
 
He offered it to me at a good price but after thinking about it I was on the fence if I was interested or not. Didn't think it was right to buy it and resell for myself. Best thing to do I think is to have a look at its condition and offer it up on his behalf. Thanks for the pricing suggestions, gives me a good ball park to look at.
Just need to see now what kind of hoops I need to jump thru. Lol
 
I was offered $500 trade in value for mine. Just for reference purposes. This is, I guess, wholesale and they would likely ask $650-700 for it retail.
