Browning Hi-Power: crappy trigger?

I'm thinking of buying a Hi-Power but I'm a little concerned by what I heard about their supposedly stiff, gritty triggers (thanks to the magazine safety). What do hi-power owners think on this subject? Are the triggers really that bad compared to other semi-autos in the same price range?
 
I'ld say they are comparable, and you can always have the mag safety removed to make it smoother.....any decent 'smith should be able to smooth things up for you even more if you feel it is required...
 
My Inglis Hi-Power has a crisp 4 lb. trigger. Mag safety deleted, Wolff springs, polished sear and hammer. But even out of the box, I'd rate a stock Hi-Power trigger better than most DA/SA auto triggers.

Depends on how competent one is with tinkering around with small bits and pieces. It's been a while since I did mine, but if I recall properly, all that is needed toolwise is a screwdriver, hammer and a couple of small punches.
 
Thanks for the responses, everyone. On a related note, does anyone have a MK III in .40S&W? What do you think of that particular gun/caliber combination?

Got MkIII's in both 9mm & .40 S&W. No issues with the trigger on either. Grip of that model fits my hand perfectly. And I like the factory ambi-safety as I'm a leftie. Slide on the .40 is beefier than the 9mm...

WRT the mag safety All you need is one punch - some may need needlenose pliers to turn and extract the plunger.

Now the removal of the mag safety will then increase trigger reset distance.
This can be fixed by building up (weld) the trigger bar.

Does the beefier slide make the .40 considerably thicker? Do you have any side by side pics?
 
the slide is about .06 to .08 thou wider, say 1.5 to 2 mm.....side by side there is a slight difference in feel, but both are acceptable, nay, even great.

Yeah, what he said... :D You can see in the pic above how the slide of the .40 [bottom pic] is only slightly thicker than the standard 9mm...
 
Looks like I'm gonna pull the trigger on this one. Is $699 a good price for an FN branded gun with polymer grips/epoxy finish?
