Im in the market for a Browning Hi Power... of course 9mm being the preferred, but darn hard to find. Ive contemplated some of the replicas (FEG, and the Norinco). But have finally gotten the concept buy once, cry once to start sinking a bit.

That being said, I have located a Hi Power in the 40 S&W calibre and figured it could suffice in filling that desire despite not being 9mm.

Of course condition is key on putting a price to a firearm, and I would describe this one as good to very good. So I hope some of you pistol experts will be able to give me a price point on which to aim for this one, and/or a 9mm in similar condition if I happen to ever stumble on one.

Is this the one at astorarms? I've recently seen used ones from $800 at a gun show and one for $1200 at a local gun shop. I been considering getting the one at the gun show since it's in great condition but I already have several 9s.

I got a hi power for 700 a couple years ago. I would say very good shape. Mine is a Practical model in40. I found that mags for the hi power in 40 much more difficult to find and at $54 a piece were more than I had anticipated. The stock trigger was less than awesome but the accuracy is good. On the 40 the recoil spring is a real challenge for reassembly. My hi power is currently in for a trigger job along with the installation of a cylinder and slide sear and no bite hammer. Going to shoot some IPSC with it this year.

This one in 40 S&W is not from astorarms, but I may very well look into them as well. The one Im looking at is up for grabs for $650... and I thought that was a pretty good deal, but being frugal, always wanting it cheaper!

Ive had it happen in the past where I caved, bought something because I was too eager to wait for the true want; and the very next day it shows up for sale. So I'll let it stew for a couple more days and if I dont buy if someone else wants the information I will pass it on :)

I'd say wait; get what you want. The Hi Power is a classic 9 mm handgun, just as the 1911 is a classic in .45. Unless the deal is worth it to you (though the difference in ammo price will negate that deal...).

I'd buy a BHP in .40 S&W for $650 in a heart beat! I've owned seven H-Ps in 9mm, two clones, and a Forty, all of them fine guns. The Forty BHP is as fine a gun in that caliber as can be. They are harder to find than the nines, are generally more sought after, and have that wonderful Hi Power grip. The recoil is not that bad, and they are reliable. I'd go for it!
