Thinking of trying to aquire one of these. The Mark III sights are fixed. Are they pretty much on target if your technique is good? I don't like the idea of having to have a hold allowance if POI is not the same as POA for what will be a paper punching gun. It wouldn't seem that difficult for Browning to have made the rear sight drift adjustable. Are the fixed sights a holdover from it's "combat" heritage? The "Standard" shows as available with adjustable rear sight but doesn't seem near as common.
Thanks

Sights for handguns are generally calibrated for 25yds with hardball ammo. Technique and variations in ammo will affect POI.

Thanks. So the fact I had to adjust the sights on my SR9 from centre cause I was shooting low right (left handed) was likely me not the gun? I would assume you could still end up with a fixed sight gun from the factory that doesn't shoot to point of aim even when everything else is correct and have to learn to adjust for it.

Probably you. Practice dry firing over and over at home.

I have a BHP T-Series (with the tiny combat sights) which seems to be shooting about 3" low at 7 yds. with my 124 gr. handloads. I think I shot some American Eagle 124's as well with similar results. Next time I get out to the range I'll try shooting from a rest at 25 yds. and see if there is a noticeable difference.

I wonder what bullet weight was standard military issue back when it was made.

For pistols I would let someone else shoot it and see where the POI is before any sight adjustment. At least at first.

Shot my SR9 from a solid rest at 10yds and it was consistently low right. Adjusted the sights and now it shoots where its aimed, rested or 2 handed. Could still be me, but as I said I am wondering with fixed sight guns and the highpower in particular if they generally shoot point of aim or do you have to adjust POA for POI?

If handguns are held too firmly, or not allowed to recoil "normally", bullet impact can be low. Underpowered ammo can also exhibit low bullet strikes. In addition to this, the vast majority of shooters tend to pull the muzzle downwards while firing, again with low bullet impacts being the result.

When the trigger is pulled, what we are trying to do is separate the sear from the hammer, which allows the hammer to fall. The same basic path is followed with striker fired guns. When the trigger is being pulled, we exert a lot of rearward pressure. At the moment the hammer or striker is released, the pressure from our trigger finger is still there. How this pressure is contained or dealt with affects accuracy.

As target shooters, we want a lightweight trigger pull, not because we are weaklings, but because the pressure exerted is easier to control. An overtravel stop or screw physically prevents the trigger from continuing it's movement, effectively containing the pressure. If the pressure is not contained, the sudden release of the sear allows the trigger finger to travel rearward at a higher speed, this is what we call "flinch", and the result is movement or wavering of the muzzle and inconsistent POI.

For practice...
~ Only use the muscles in the trigger finger to pull the trigger.
~ Dry-fire with your eyes closed.

thanx! awsome advice, right handed,...low left,... goes away with focus, i had a lazer on a handgun and was dryfiring it with a poa on the oposite wall, WOW! that helped me alot, now if i focus the muscle memory comes back...would like another lazer too!

Thanks for the advice on shooting and technique thus far. As to the original question to owners of fixed sight HP's, do they shoot where you aim them or do you have to hold off up, down, right ,left to hit centre?
