I was drooling over a BLR in 30.06 today but once i picked it up it felt kinda cheap. The stock seemed like it was made of plastic. The browning website says gloss finish walnutbut it didn't feel at all like wood and it seemed too light to be wood. Can anyone tell me what the story is here? I really want a lever 30.006 or .308 but I'm not spending $1000 on gun with a plastic stock.

Blr

Unless I'm mistaken all BLRs' that are made for anything like the 30/06..7 mm mag and on up in length are the kind you are looking at...those with an alloy receiver...not steel frame like before.

If you want a steel BLR it will be one of the older versions ...the oldest with the "drop down" shaped mag and then the next generation Blr 81 with flush magazine. Have owned two in .308 of the early vintage....long since gone and now have a Blr 81.
So if .308 is OK for you ...keep watching the EE as the older steel receiver models come up for sale frequently and they are accurate firearms.

Forget the 30/06 in the BLR! Too stinkin' heavy. They get close to 28lbs with a scope and wide leather cobra sling.

Check out the EE for an all steel 308. You like it alot more.
