Browning Maxus, Benelli Super Vinci, SBEII, or Remington VersaMax

Im torn for what I want to buy for next spring, so I do have some time to search which is why Im making a post.

I am Biased to Browning. But very open to other options

Whatever I get will be Waterfowl based. So 3.5 chambering, camo etc. but it will likely see light target loads the odd time if I dont feel like taking the Citori. As well as the odd run through the bush dogging deer. That would be rare occasion but you never know what you feel like taking when you wake up in the morning.

It will get used hard, not abused and see very regular cleaning whether its needed or not. Thats just how I am.

So, help me decide!

What are your personal opinions, and stories using these with great or no success?
 
Best advice and shoulder a few. I had an sb2 and now own an sx3 and prefer a gas gun. All the b guns are great guns. Just for the money an sx3 is a great gun. Not crazy about any remington products but that is me. Just heard too many stories about poor quality control. Gas guns are harder to clean but recoil is less. I prefer a gas gun. Also I find benelli's are over priced.
 
Love my Maxus!! SBE is pretty old design and heard the recoil is pretty severe compared to the gas guns you have listed. I'd consider the A400 as well. The Vinci is inertia and not gas, but a nice gun if it fits you.

Tried em all (except the SBE II) and prefer and kept the Maxus!
 
I have been shooting a 3" Maxus stalker since 2010 great gun . its been used for sal####er ,freshwater ducks and geese as well as grouse and lots of clays .would buy another one tomorrow . have shot a friends versa max and found it to be fairly heavy . also shot a round of skeet with a super vinci nice gun but it had issues cycling the light target loads . if 3.5" chamber is not a must have check out the gundealers used gun section as they have 2 as new maxus 3" camo guns listed at a very good price . I suspect they may be new left over stock from a year or 2 back .
 
All great info. I'm leaning towards the Maxus. Prefer a gas gun purely based on recoil. Plus I clean them after every trip out. Even if I don't shoot it. If they come out of the safe or case, they are getting a cleaning
 
Choose the gun based on fit, not on style or appearance. If it doesn't fit you, then you won't shoot it as well. The gas guns definitely produce less felt recoil. I use a pair of SX-3s for waterfowl hunting myself, after owning a SBEII, and an A400 Xtreme. the SX-3 fits me better, so I shoot it better.
 
I'm on my second maxus now. Made a mistake and sold my first one. Tried versa not fussy on it. bought a benelli super black eagle sold it to my fried, kicked like a mull! He loves it. Just bought another maxus. It simple light and works hard!
 
I read until my eyes bled and finally decided on the A400 Extreme. Went to the store and came home with a Maxus. Hunted waterfowl hard this year for the first time in a long time. I love the gun so much it motivated me to get out there often. It is balanced perfectly and shoots everything you stuff in it reliably. Most importantly for me is it shoots where I point it without even a slight though of aim. That of course is a personal thing but the shims provided allowed me to get a custom fit with very little effort. The back bored barrel and factory chokes pattern several different brands of steel very well, including Black Cloud. I purchased a set of extended Carlson chokes but after trying them found very little difference at the ranges I shoot.
 
I will have to add sx3 to my list when I go to the store to shoulder up some guns. But I'm still hearing more and more great things about the maxus
 
Owned both the maxus and the versamax (sportsman). Sold the maxus, still have the versamax. Never had an issue with anything I put through the browning, nice and light but still felt quality built in your hands. It just didnt fit me well and combined with the light weight I went home with a sore cheek and shoulder after a day at the range even after shims were installed. Had it fit better I would probably still own it. My only concern with it would be the durability of the finish. It's nice and grippy but it sure didnt take much to scratch it off, probably wouldn't hold up to hard use. The versamax aint pretty, fit and finish isn't as good, but it goes bang all the time and I aint afraid to set it down in the swamp, drag it through the willows, or handle it when covered in duck guts. And the recoil is non existent, even with 3.5" shells. So it really boils down to what you're gonna use it for. If you can, buy them both.
