Browning Maxus, Winchester SX3, Remington Versa max

Came across the Franchi Affinity today, any word on these? Seem similar to a Benelli M2 but with the return spring around the mag tube. Are these made in Italy?

Also, my uncle has a Japanese Browning A5 Magnum. It's a long recoil action but is really solid, do you guys think the modern stuff offers much more of an advantage?

Buy your Uncle's gun, you know it is reliable and well maintained.

Retail price on brand new semi's is ridiculous, the most over priced of all guns considering that they lose value dramatically once used.

Were the Japanese Magnum barrels proofed for shooting steel waterfowl loads?

No they are not approved for steel shot, walls too thin.
Japanese bbls with choke tube are.

Duh what time was it and why was my brain telling me Belgian instead of Japanese when I wrote the above ????? Damn chemo drugs.

I have hunted two seasons with a versa max, and am very pleased. eats anything you feed it soft recoil and fits me well. The camo finish is not as durable as it should be. All these guns are fine , just personal choice

I have had a browning maxus for two years now, I love it, no issues with it at all. I had tried the SX3 before but chose the maxus as it fit me better. What is important to consider is the fit for you personally. Go to a gun store and shoulder these guns and figure out which one fits you best.

I had a versa max for a while the problems with them was fix quickly mine was not affected, really nice gun to shoot recoil wasn't bad at all even with the big loads cycles just like they advertise them no problems ever with it. Only reason I got rid of it was because I moved where I wasn't going to be huntin birds

The maxus is a superior gun to the sx3. I love mine. never mis fed a shell or failed to go bang ever. all are good but i believe the maxus to be the best. The first time i shot it i was floored by how little recoil there is. all will take ducks well tho. no experience with the versa max. i thought it was ugly so i didnt bother with it.

First, have you gone to shoulder them all yet? I was originally set to buy the SX3 until I went in the store and shouldered one. It did not fit me very well. I have tried the different shims and other SX3 models to make sure it wasn't an one time thing. If it doesn't fit and feel like an extension of your body, then there's no point.

I ended up shouldering both the Maxus and the Versamax. I walked away with the Versamax in the end. I'm really happy with it and it has been a godsend for my back (was in a car accident, messed up my back) while shooting 3" magnum and 3 1/2" shells.

It feeds all the ammo without any FTE or FTF. I found a topic on shotgunworld that attests to the durability and effectiveness of the Remington Versamax. It also touches a bit on the shortcomings (repairs, warranty replacement); however, they are far and few in between.

Having said that, I think I would have a hard time finding a shotgun that can reliably eat and fire a wide range of shells from 2 3/4" target loads to 3 1/2" shells.

Also, I recommend taking a look at the Weatherby SA-08. It was an interesting firearm that fit me really well. I ended up not buying it because I didn't like the idea of changing out the gas pistons based on whether I want to shoot heavy or light loads.
