I have one of these .22 pistols that was made in Belguim in 1969. I shot it today for the first time and it would not eject or feed properly. The slide would not come back far enough to eject the case so would not feed another round. There is a slotted screw on the rear of the slide behind the rear sights. Does anyone know what that screw is for? Thanks for any help.

George.

Inspect the fired case. Is there a lengthwise drag mark on the case... as if the edge of the chamber had a burr. If so the chamber may have a burr from dry firing. Otherwise make sure the gun is clean and possibly try different ammo. Don't over lube anything. Light lubrication with G96 Gun Treatment is a favorite.

I have one of these. Mine is fussy on being cleaned. Good for between 75-100 rounds before starting to FTE, FTC. Depends on brand of ammunition. Some goes longer. Clean the chamber and barrel with bore cleaner, bronze brush and swab, then one drop of oil only on swab. Try chambering and extracting a dummy cartridge (or if NA use a live round CAREFULLY with safety on where it is safe & legal to discharge a firearm, not in your house). If you can see issues, you can correct. The extractor sits in these without a retainer and can get out of place and the spring can be lost. You have to remove the forend to loosen the screw on bottom to lift off the barrel. The slide will then slip off forward. There are two holes in back of the slide. One of them is off centre for the guide pin with return spring to seat, the other is larger. Ensure the return spring guide pin is in the correct hole. The slide should come all the way back to end of travel without binding. There is a pin that sticks up out of the action to act as ejector. These can get bent and cause problems. Make sure it isn't binding on the slide.

You have to try a box of as many brands of ammo as you can to find the ammo it'll both shoot well and cycle the action. All .22's are like that.
Browning Medalist's are primo target pistols. It's also known as a Challenger/Challenger II. Manuals are here. No W's.
