I just purchased a standard grade in as new condition looking forward to hunting birds with this shotgun 26” bbl mod choke should be a nice gun for huns and maybe early season sharp grouse
It’s a little heavy but that’s ok

Maybe just maybe you may be ready to let the model 12 solid rib 16 gauge go to a new home ?

I had a Browning Model 12 28 gauge in the past.Nice gun,but a bit on the heavy side for my taste in an upland game gun.:)

Sold my Model 12 browning in 28 cuz I had my little weatherby 28 semi.Which is now in the smith's hands due to a factory "SAFETY" recall, sorry its gone but still have a couple 28's left

Find yourself the Winchester 1 ounce shell of lead birdshot. Kills about the same as 2 3/4 shell in a 20 gauge.
My Ithaca likes modified choke in this shell.

I will keep a look out for that load I have 6 boxes of fed premium 3/4 oz no6 and 6 boxes of the same in 7.5 I like the idea of 1 oz

Don't underestimate the Fed Premium 3/4 oz load with a modified choke it is a stellar performer The 1oz load is over rated it works but the velocity is low a 7/8oz load is a much better choice but it needs to be handloaded.

I have killed a couple of hundred birds with the Fiocchi Golden Pheasant loads. They pattern better than the 1 oz Winchester load, and the plated shot penetrates better.

That was my go to load for pheasants still have a couple boxes left.

Never had any trouble with the pattern of the 1 ounce Winchester ammunition in any of the 28 gauge guns I have patterned it with.I like to use it with more open chokes, to help sweeten the pattern, but have had no problems with it in the tighter chokes.

The velocity is not a issue in my eyes I shoot 7/8 oz RSt 2.5 inch in my 20 ga Parker I believe about 1025 FPS or maybe a bit more but out of a full choke bbl I fold shatptails up at 35 plus yards as long as you center them up .

I will do some pattern testing on barn yard pigeons this summer with different loads I can tell how well the pattern is by the way there wings fold up in the air

Times past the short version of the 28 was a load of 5/8 oz When I burn out my 28 hulls I trim them and load 5/8oz with a roll crimp to get one more bang out of a hull.

5/8 oz that sounds nice
On another note I picked up 6 boxes of 1 oz Rrio game load 1200fps no 8 shot should be a dense patterning load
Large shot charges are not really something I gravitate towards i shoot 7/8 oz out of my 12 ga guns and do ok with those loads but I do like experimenting

That Rio load is smoking for 1oz load.
