I used to shoot Remington Target just fine in this pistol, standard velocity stuff. I was staying away from high velocity as I did not want to beat the gun up.

I picked up some Aquila standard velocity as it was very cheap and the reviews were good on it. This stuff does not seem to cycle properly with the slide not moving all the day forward. I switched back to the Remington target and ran into the same problem. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I tore the pistol down to clean it and there was some carbon fouling but not a lot, did not seem like there was sticky grease on it, just seemed like normal use. I cleaned it up with a brush and some solvent then hit it with some CLP very lightly but could it be something more than just dirt?

Thanks

Since you have cleaned the pistol and still have the issue, my guess would be it's time for a new recoil spring.

The idea of keeping the standard velocity ammo is a sound one? I thought this because I did not believe high velocity stuff was the norm in 1964.

I'm no expert, but if it was my 1964 pistol, I'd stay with the Standard Velocity :). If it happens with all your magazines and the recoil spring has not been changed recently I'd still recommend a new recoil spring. I don't know a lot about your pistol but there maybe a complete 'spring kit' available to replace all the springs. Spring week spots can sometimes be seen where the symmetry of the coils is different.

The cartridge sits low in the mag but strips off and loads just fine but the slide does not go all the way forward, which is weird, could be a spring.

I would not be surprised if the spring is original, I got it from my grandpa and he was the original owner.

It ejects and moves forward but often I was pushing the slide closed.

That a round and drop in the chamber, If it does not drop all the way in, clean the crap out of the chamber till it will.
I shoot that stuff and it is good, but a lot of grease and it builds up in the chamber, a light cleaning may net get it all out.
I don't have much use for Rem. in my Hi-Standards. try a box of Fed, or Winch. and see if it is any different.
I don't thing spring problem, as it worked before, unless the spring broke, does the slide seem the same when you pull it back? or weaker?
