Who carries genuine Browning Hi-Powers here in Canada? I see Wolverine does but don't see too many other that have them listed. I would be looking for brand new, not used.

From what I have learned, the only difference between the MkIII and Standard is the finish and the grips. Anyone other advantages/disadvantages? How durable is the finish on the MkIII? Do you guys generally prefer fixed of adjustable sights? Seems most people go fixed for reliability.

Thanks

ww w.shooterschoice.com, ww w.ellwoodepps.com, ww w.williamsarms.net are three that come to mind. I bought one at wolverine a while ago too.

I understand that the finish on the mkIII is very tough. The standard looks nicer though.

The grips are a matter of preference.

All mine have had fixed sights but I don't like the white bar sights on the mkIII and practical.

ARWEN ACE here can set you up with Novak sights and install them too. They will look like they came from the factory and are better IMO.

I got mine from Wolverine just over a year ago. I went with the Mk3 because I planned on changing the grips to the Simonich Gunner grips, and the finish looking a little nicer wasn't a priority. Personally I don't see anything wrong with the finish anyways.
Here's my Mk3 in .40:

If you can find one, get a gun that's stamped "FN" rather than "Browning". They are both manufactured by FN in Belgium and identical in every way other than the roll mark, but for some reason Brownings cost more (must be because it's a better known name). I bought my FN from the Shooting Edge last year for $699 (brand new, with 3 mags). In comparison, Browning-stamped guns were selling for $850-900 and came with only two mags.

The differences between Mark III and Standard are, like you said, the finish and the grips. Standard comes in polished blue, which looks very pretty but like all bluing finishes is not particularly durable or corrosion resistant. Mark III's finish is epoxy over parkerizing and it is much tougher and more corrosion resistant than bluing.

I have fixed sights on my gun and am quite happy with them.

What are those grips made of? Micarta? How thick are they compared to stock grips? I bought a set of set Hogue rosewood grips panels and while they look very nice, they make the grip a little too thin for my hand.

I have no idea what they're made out of. They are a very course, rigid material. Maybe some of the knife-guys might know as they were made by a knife manufacturer (Simonich Knives).
They are quite thin (I have the hands of a small girl so I'm not a huge fan of large profile grips). After work I'll take a pic of the profile for you.
